Just leaving Aurelio’s of Homewood. My family and I have been coming here for years. We caught Joe Aurelio Jr himself. He stopped by our usual table my parents and I frequent. I’m going to use Joe’s own words in this review. Paraphrased as I remember them. “All the big chains will hit at us. You want sloppy dough sauce and cheese thrown together, you go to them. You want quality, you come here.” Every member of the wait staff genuinely cares about the customers. Most of us recognize us by our faces. The atmosphere is great. Tons of seating. Many different rooms. Ask for the old oven for crispier pizza. This location literally sets and raises the bar for the Chicago area dine in pizza experience.

This is the mother ship for Aurelios, I remember the original one but my kids grew up going to this one. I have many great memories here and today’s visit did not disappoint.
I had pizza, salad and iced tea. I tried their thick crust lil pizza and it was great. I love their antipasta salad and the small was generous enough to bring home for dinner.
We wanted to visit this location to see all the paraphernalia related to the new Pope and we enjoyed it as much as the food.
Be forewarned: they will not do separate checks here. They only have Prpsi products.

Took a large group of seniors. The food was good (chicken sandwich and fries; everyone else had various types of pizzas. which they loved!!) and the owner Joe is absolutely an peach!!! They typically don’t split the check but they made an exception for them. Would I recommend a group of seniors for lunch? NO! It was terribly expensive plus gratuity. But Joe is the best owner I’ve ever encountered. The servers were okay as well; not friendly nor rude. The atmosphere was classic but clean.

Waited for 2.5 hrs. Party of 17. Saw parties after us with 17 and 20 people seated before us. Went up to the person at the podium and kept asking why we weren’t seated yet. They kept saying that they called us. Never did. We saw tables available to seat us earlier. We were denied. We have been going here for more than 20-25 yrs. Never had it this bad. It is a shame. We grew up here and now live states away. We meet up every year with family to keep in touch. Greatly disappointed.

This place is an iconic gem. You walk in the door and it’s like stepping back in time. It’s authentically charming and the food is always great. Servers are always friendly and seem to enjoy being there. This is the best Aurelio’s, hands down. We drive 35 minutes to eat here and pass over a dozen other pizza places on the way. That really says it all.

This place is really, really cool! Very old school pizza parlor vibes. The pizza here was delicious! We ordered a sausage and garlic cooked in the old oven. Definitely request the old oven because it’s better! I highly recommend this place. We will be back!

Aurelio’s Pizza in Homewood is an absolute institution, and for good reason! Stepping inside feels like coming home—the atmosphere is warm, the staff is incredibly friendly, and you can just feel the history in the place. As for the pizza, it’s nothing short of perfection. The thin crust is crispy and buttery, the sweet sauce is a perfect complement, and the cheese is perfectly melted. Every bite is a little piece of Chicago-area pizza heaven. Speaking of heaven, our 50th wedding anniversary celebration at Aurelio’s Pizza was truly unforgettable. We were surrounded by friends when an unusual sight caught our attention: a film crew from the Vatican was filming a documentary on Pope Leo XIV. As it turns out, Aurelio’s is the pope’s favorite spot for pizza.
One of the priests from the crew noticed our celebration and, upon learning it was our 50th anniversary, he came over. He spoke a few kind words and gave us a special blessing that we’ll never forget. It was a beautiful, unexpected moment that made our special day feel truly miraculous.

You don’t make a trip to the south suburbs without visiting Aurelios Pizza for their famous pizza. After all, the pope is from this area. They have pictures of him in the restaurant. We met the owner too.
