-Mushy rice
-Mac salad lack of flavor, tastes like putting mayonnaise in our mouth
-Kalbi is dry, tough, non-tender, hard to cut, better if dip in the teri sauce – but loved the bones being smaller so they contain more meat
-Garlic shrimps are jumbo, have okay garlic flavors and not overcooked
-teriyaki beef is the only thing that was more enjoyable to eat
Everything tastes worse with the mushy rice. It’s half congee texture. We honestly couldn’t down the rice.
As much as I love Hawaiian BBQ and we don’t have many good hawaiian BBQ small businesses around in Utah, this wasn’t a great first time experience.
Staff is friendly and the place has got vibes, but not worth what you get for what you pay. L&L and mo’bettahs both have much better flavored meat, rice, and mac salad, even if I can’t get the kalbi or jumbo shrimp. I save half the money on something much more enjoyable. It’s hard to not visit the chained restaurant rather than the small local business when the quality we get is like this.
I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that the quality is so bad because it’s a Saturday night within the last hour of opening, so we just got a dump of meat on a family sized plate. Hoping for a better quality of food when we cross paths again.
Aloha in SLC! Legit the best Hawaiian food you’ll find on the mainland
As someone who was born and raised in Hawaii, I can be a tough critic when it comes to Hawaiian food, but this place is the real deal. It’s hands-down the best Hawaiian restaurant in the entire SLC area, and it’s not even a debate. It’s so good, in fact, that when I mentioned it to my cousins who also moved here from the islands, they told me it’s their go-to spot too! That’s how you know it’s legit.
Everything on the menu is fantastic, but my personal recommendations are the garlic chicken or the kalbi. The flavors are spot on and totally remind me of home. You won’t be disappointed!
Pro tip: Head there on a Friday night to catch some awesome live music. It really adds to the great island vibes and makes the whole experience even better.
Seriously, if you’re craving authentic Hawaiian food and a taste of aloha, this is the place to be. You can thank me later!
P.S the plates are kinda huge and the line is kinda long sometimes and it can get crowded super fast during mealtime hours. But they’re fast getting things out.
Portion sizes are awesome and it was even better in the restaurant. Loved the atmosphere with live music. It is becoming our new family favorite.
