The food was hot and good. My only complaint is my side of greens. That container had very little greens for 4.99. I literally had three fork and that was all. I was expecting more in that container but it was not to be.

This is exactly what downtown Springfield needed! I stopped in for lunch on Sunday when in town on National Guard duty. Jennifer was a peach! The food was well flavored, not overly heavy, as some would food I have found to be, and cooked perfectly. I had the okra, shrimp & grits and peach cobbler. I’d come here just for the cobbler itself! This will be my new regular spot when I’m in town. ⭐️ ✨ ✝️

I love the food here! I don’t know why it’s not more popular; the catfish is delicious! The desserts are fantastic! And the sides are very authentic and good!

Terrible business etiquette! My best friend and I traveled over three hours, from the south suburbs of Chicago to try this place. Mind you I’ve tried this place before, amazing food. The way I bragged about you guys encouraged him to plan our Best friend’s Anniversary around eating here. After booking a $300 rental and traveled over three hours, just to find out that you guys are closed rotating Sundays! Mind you, it says that you were open online. I’m utterly disappointed in this experience! Please update your hours so that people aren’t wasting time and money!

2/6/2026: My wife and I went out to dinner, in part because the lingering snow and cold had kept us inside for so long. Laura and I split the fried deviled eggs which somewhat resemble Scotch eggs minus the sausage, and then she ordered fried okra, collard greens, and candied yams. I order fried chicken wings (6), also candied yams and, at our server’s suggestion, fried cabbage . The portions were plentiful, the cabbage was rich and flavorful, and the dinner really was excellent. Next time we’ll forgo the appetizer to have room for one of the delicious desserts such as sweet potato pie or banana pudding or peach cobbler. Our server was welcoming and friendly. This is a gem of a restaurant, and we wish they would do more evening business though they seem to have a fair amount of take-out business.
Three of us went for dinner. Reasonable prices ($19-20 per person) and incredible food. Excellent server. We shared the fried deviled eggs. I ordered the smothered pork chop with collard greens and mashed potatoes and cornbread. My wife, a vegetarian, had fried okra, collard greens, and red beans and rice with cornbread. Our guest had the fried chicken dinner with greens, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. No one had room for desert.

I have dined there twice and both times the food was absolutely amazing. I had peach cobbler togo a couple of times and it tasted exquisite. I would definitely recommend the food here

The food here was fantastic! We went for lunch during a weekday and it wasn’t very busy. The catfish, smothered pork chop, candied yams, cheese grits, red beans and rice, and Mac and cheese were all excellent – well prepared and tasty. Our server was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere in beautiful downtown Springfield is also worth it. My only complaint is that it took a while for the food to come out – but you don’t pick soul food because you want fast food. Slow down and enjoy!

Lovely place! If you’re stopping through town or haven’t tried it yet, you gotta go to Aunt Lou’s.
