Zaitouna provided one of the most hostile service experiences I’ve encountered in years on Friday, February 13. She was dismissive and abrasive toward me, my wife, and the entire group I brought. The tone was curt. Eye contact was challenging not welcoming and our questions were met with impatience. I brought a friend who was new to Augustine and genuinely excited to explore wine. When he tried to describe flavor profiles he enjoys, Zaitouna corrected him publicly and repeatedly in a condescending way. At one point, she set a glass down so forcefully that it shattered and cut her hand. It was an uncomfortable moment that reflected the tense energy throughout the evening. She did not smile once during our interaction. The atmosphere was awful from start to finish. Hospitality should feel warm and inviting. This was adversarial. Multiple people in our group commented afterward about how uncomfortable the service felt. We won’t be returning. – Michael

This place used to be great! we really sad we had a really bad experience New Year’s Eve. The staff was super arrogant and dismissive. They obviously have no idea how to give quality service, it was Fairly obvious that the staff not only didn’t care for the customers that didn’t care for one another. This type of poor service flows from the top down.
It’s almost shocking when you’re ignored by people who are standing 2 feet away from you. Shameful avoided at all costs.

Augustine is BACK!
After months of construction and weeks of applying the finishing touches, Augustine is BACK!
The kitchen has been slightly expanded, and 1946, the private venue in the rear, is periodically opened for busy night overflow.
The owner/manager team put in an extreme effort to make the ‘new’ Augustine a perfect reincarnation of the original Augustine.
Not to be missed if you’re in the neighborhood.

Read about this place on a top 10 LA Wine Bar list…did not disappoint. Cool off the beaten track selection plus some off menu vintage gems like the 2003 NZ Sauvignon Blanc recommended. Food was also awesome. Cheese and charcuterie was fab. Highly recommend!

Never in my life did I think I’d be giving Augustine a 1-star review. This used to be one of my favorite spots. I recently came with my family at happy hour time (5p). The place was empty. Before parking I ran in to ask if I could sit outside with my kids – I specifically said “babies”. I figured the answer would be “no” since they are a wine bar. But because they also serve food, I took my chances. They said sure, we could sit outside.
We paid for parking. Sat down. Then, the rude, hipster waiter came out and was like “um actually no, you can’t stay because one of your children is too old and it’s a liability issue”. But this is exactly why I came in to ask I said. I actually asked for them to reimburse my parking – they laughed and argued with me while my infant was starving and screaming. This just the type of anti-family, out of touch attitude that makes a once cool spot turn into a pathetic dinosaur.
Augustine is a relic of the valley pre- the many, many better options like Buvette, Homestate, etc etc. obviously, post-reopen, they’ve completely lost touch with the neighborhood (hence why they are dated and empty during happy hour!)

This is a really cool place. The wine isn’t that expensive at all. The bartenders are sincere and knowledgeable. The eats are great. Nice atmosphere. One of the better times in a while

I loved the place! Been couple times and enjoyed their organic orange wine they had on menu back then (I think it was from either Austria or Germany? Seasonal wine)

It’s fairly easy to drive past this unassuming spot and not realize what a gem you’ve just passed by. Please don’t make that mistake. Fantastic wine, delightful atmosphere, service with impeccable knowledge, and a smile. The food is delightfully delicious and I have yet to sit in a spot that’s not perfectly comfortable. There’s outdoor seating as well as ample indoor seating. Valet service makes this spot an easy choice on Ventura Boulevard.

The wine selection and the staff service were superb. The food we had pasta and pork loin were the salt bomb. It was so overly seasoned that it was difficult to eat. The grilled Cesar salad was great and the almond and olives were great but really salty. I would stick to the cheese and cured meat platters rather than cooked food. But overall, it was a fun experience.
