I’ve lived in East Hartford since 1998 & I went to Augie & Rays for the 1st time this month (Aug 2025) Now..my husband & I are foodies so don’t get upset with this review. The first thing we ordered was the Turkey Grinder & all the fixings..delicious..so delicious that I’ll never go to Subway again..but here’s the 2nd half of my review: Today (8/27/25) I wanted to try out their breakfast..it was a complete fail. Bread sopping with butter, spicy sausage that I thought it was pepperoni & the potatoes weren’t good. Remember I’m a foodie which means I go around to several restaurants & taste & rate everything. So I’m thinking, maybe it’s great for most men to eat the breakfast especially if they’re single or can’t / won’t cook but I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast. I will go back to try other items on the menu. The men who work there are super nice though & I do like the long extended counter with the padded seats.

I like local places with history, good food, and great people and Augie & Ray’s is exactly that. The guy that took our order was super friendly and the hot dogs were really good. I recommend the chili dog. No lingering aftertaste. The grilled rolls are fantastic. I will definitely be back.

I’ve been going to Augie and Ray’s for 55 years now all through my childhood. This is a great place to get freshly made food right in front of you. The people that work here are friendly and hardworking. I ordered a hotdog and Coke today. I love their cheese burgers, clams, and fish and chips. One of the best fish sandwiches around.

I have only tried the breakfast sandwiches but I keep going so thats speaks for its self. The sausage is different (in a good way) as it’s sliced and has a nice spice to it. Bacon,sausage, egg and cheese add hashbrown patty is my goto!

If you are on a road trip along 84, you must stop here. It’s a little out of your way but worth it. You can get a more quintessential taste of American than this diner. The moment we walked in, locals were chatting with the workers behind the counter and one of the employees looks at the car we pulled up in and says “you are not from around here” and proceeds to talk to us. Based on recommendations we got the hot pastrami mikes burger onion rings and a milk shake. Everything was delicious and priced reasonably. My kind of place.

This awesome little diner outside of pratt and whitney should definitely be considered for your breakfast go to list. My favorite thing to order is the glizzy: The toasted hot dog bread perfectly hugs the hot dog covered in fresh chili and cheese that melts in your mouth. Open almost every day super early, quick service, amazing hospitality, and menu that’ll tickle many fancys. I highly recommend.

Pretty fabulous hot dogs at very reasonable prices. Clam strips and onion rings are solid too, although one would like a bit more meat to them. One of those old school places which thankfully are holding on. Seriously friendly service as well. A real gem.
