Really sweet place. A neat discovery after a short walk on the bike path. I went down the side path to see if I could access the beach from a public entry point and found Charlie’s Boathouse. Purchased a soda, and after a short chat with Charlie, I stayed to draw on the beach. Indeed, they are super friendly! I remained for an hour on the beach in relative peace and quiet. I hope to return and rent a kayak.

Charlie’s is my “Happy Place.” During the summer it’s a great place to get good, cheap candy, soda, hot dogs and Charlie Burgers. It is considered one of Burlington’s historic areas and a must stop for any biking tour to Colchester Causeway.

Charlie has old school charm and personality. Stopping at his boathouse made the trail ride even more enjoyable.

A total gem of a place, in operation in Charlie’s family since 1937. We came for the first time tonight for some burgers, and Charlie was kind enough to stay open late for us to prepare a few (note: he closes up at sunset, which after August is 7/7:30). The view is beautiful, the burgers are delicious, the conversation is lovely, and Mama is a sweetpea. You won’t regret a visit.

Sad to hear that Charlie has passed. I remember fondly of this place and the experience i had with family while renting from here. It feels like that time was a distant past

This place was great- the owner was fantastic!! My husband and I went for a bike and we are on vacation. We went unprepared…only credit card and no food. Needless to say I stopped there because I saw they had food; unfortunately the owner does not take credit. Fortunately, he is a SAINT and gave me a protein bar for free!! I HIGHLY reccomend stopping here. The man is so kind, he has an array of snacks, food, and a great view!!

We always look forward to stopping by Charlie’s Boathouse to see Charlie and grab a few ‘Charlie Burgers’ and drinks after biking along the beautiful bike trail from Burlington to South Hero Sure makes the ride worthwhile, as Charlie is always such a breath of fresh air, and his burgers are sensational. He is perfectly located at the mouth of the Winooski River, a great spot for kayaking.

A Burlington gem, a historic and beautiful property right at the mouth on the Winooski River, the very northern edge of town. Kayaks and canoes for rent, earthworms for fishing, cold sodas, and various little sundries, but most of all best as a place to just sit for a minute and absorb the view of the lake. You will find a cross section of Burlington here, longtime residents who know Charlie, tourists passing through, and locals who know this as one of the best public spots anywhere on the lake.

It is closed for the season. But during spring, summer and fall, it’s a great place to stop on the Burlington bike path. Beautiful setting, food, drinks and snacks available. Step back in time and stay as long as you want!
