A fantastic find in St Malo, lovely small French bistro in the side streets. Found it by accident but went back twice. Understated food on a chalk board menu with daily specials. Loved the rabbit terrine and souris d’agneau especially but the duck legs with phenomenal chips was also something special. Great friendly service as well!

In the town where modern restaurants seem to be the rage, I was delighted to find at last a traditional bistro. More than what I was looking for, Au Coup de Canon delivers classic dishes of superb quality, affordable price, and good service against the backdrop of a beautifully decorated interior that involves nostalgia.
We chose the baked lamb and the entrecôte formula – both of which were generously portioned and terrific in taste! The sole waiter was running the whole show but he was still courteous and prompt throughout our time there. If you seek an authentic French bistro experience at Saint Malo, seek no further!

I had the pleasure of eating at Au Coup De Canon only 3 times during my stay in St.Malo. I would have gone many more times had I known about it. In my opinion, it is one of the top two restaurants in St.Malo. The food is exquisite and the service is perfect – attentive, but not hovering. The father (chef) and son (host/waiter) work in harmony to make this French dining experience classic and classy. The menu varies depending on the availability of quality ingredients, so you might not find the exact same thing every day, as happens in most other St.Malo restaurants. As a solo, English speaking traveler, I was made to feel very welcome and was comfortable asking questions. I’m looking forward to returning to Au Coup De Canon in September, 2026! Can’t wait!

Lunch for two, ribeye steak and a rack of lamb. Cooked to perfection, pink lamb and medium steak. Washed down with a glass of Chardonnay.

Food was amazing-our best meal in Saint Malo. Cool vibe and fantastic service. It was super busy, but we were seated very quickly even without a reservation and served drinks, food, etc. without a wait. We cannot wait to go back!
