As for the food, it was decent. The chicken for the mole was a bit dry but the mole itself was flavorful and filling – I didn’t finish my whole dish. Of course I had to try the verde vertigo drink because of the beautiful cup that it comes in. The bartender also made these drinks at our table which was a cool experience to watch. Other people in the group had duck and some of the tacos & all said things were good!
When we arrived, there were no available tables along the ledge with a direct view of the church, which we had specifically asked for. That was totally understandable, as it seemed fairly busy. However, not long after we were seated, two of those prime-view tables opened up. Unfortunately, no one offered to move us, despite our initial request. It’s a small detail, but it would’ve been a thoughtful gesture and would have elevated the experience. One table remained empty as we were leaving.
Overall, an okay spot with a nice setting, but there’s definitely room for more attentiveness when it comes to guest preferences.
The only thing that this restaurant has that’s worth anything is its view. Terrible food, terrible service. There are far better places to eat in the Zócalo.
First, my MIL and I got stuck in the elevator, which only allows three passengers at a time, for about five minutes with no apology for the inconvenience. Then, because we weren’t ordering meals, we were seated on a lower level that prevented us from enjoying the cathedral view directly, despite available seating upstairs. The server treated us poorly, with a sour demeanor (worse than Bilimbi, one of the most sour fruits in the world from Indonesia), even though we ordered dessert along with our beverages. My diluted Cherry Old Fashioned certainly wasn’t worth the US$14.
While the restaurant has a trendy and stylish atmosphere, such snobbish treatment is unacceptable. Additionally, the restaurant wasn’t busy and there were at least two managers on the floor who seemed completely clueless. Also, an apology for the unpleasant elevator incident isn’t too much to ask; it’s just common courtesy. My sweet FIL still tipped the server generously, but she wouldn’t have received a single extra cent if I were paying!
The music was also very loud and a bit vulgar, and the view — which is supposed to be one of the highlights of the place — was completely ruined by the reflection of the huge TVs on the windows. We
The food itself was presented in a way that felt a bit rushed — not the thoughtful, artistic style that Mexican cuisine is so famous for. The crickets on the guacamole looked more like a swarm scattered on top rather than something arranged with intention. And the ravioli arrived more like a soup, where I had to dig around to find the pasta, instead of a composed plate.
The flavors were also a bit bland for the price, which added to the disappointment. I’m not trying to be harsh — I just hoped for a special experience and left feeling let down.
Clericot is sweet and one glass is more than enough for your food.
The most beautiful is the view to the Zócalo of Puebla and the main Cathedral of the city.
