Reviews
Each drink pairing featuring unique infusions from fruits I have never heard of. The non dairy dessert to accommodate lactose issues. Chef and sommelier entertained the diners with stories and anecdotes while prepared the meal. Found out one of my favorite spots in Ktown New Wonjo is a regular crew hangout.
ATOMIX is famously hard to book. Getting a reservation felt like buying TS concert tickets, and we set alarms well in advance with high expectations for the meal.
Unfortunately, while the atmosphere was fine, the food was underwhelming. I would give the food around a 6/10. The wine pairing was worse, closer to a 3/10. I couldn’t finish most of it, and during the second half of the meal, I stopped drinking the pairings after a single sip because they were unpleasant.
We chose the bar seating when booking. Compared to other Michelin chef’s counters or bar seatings I’ve experienced, this one felt much smaller and more minimal. I understand that some people may enjoy this setup for the closer interaction, but personally it wasn’t my preference.
What surprised me most was the reaction when I shared this opinion. A friend who loves ATOMIX completely dismissed my comments and said she wouldn’t listen to anything negative about the restaurant. It made me question the level of hype surrounding it.
I don’t understand the extreme praise. Given the effort required to secure a reservation, the experience did not live up to expectations.
My husband came here as a gift to each other for Christmas, and man did it DELIVER! It is definitely worth the hype and I would love to come back one day. Yes, it’s expensive, so coming here for special occasion is the way to go. The ambience was great, the service was terrific, and the food was SOOOO good. I honestly loved all the courses, there was not one thing I didn’t like about the meal. My favorite course was the lobster for sure. Overall, we had an amazing experience and definitely will come back! I would say this is my favorite restaurants I’ve been too in the USA.
❤️What was ordered:
Set course menu & wine pairing
❤️Stand outs:
Mussel bun, Nuruk (Kohlrabi, king crab, Kristal caviar), Korean-Chinese Cuisine (Abalone, pomegranate, red cabbage), The Flavor of Fermentation (Lobster, nurd, gochujang), Scent of Korea (Lamb saddle, rye & doenjang, black truffle) Tea of Korea ( Passion fruit, white lotus tea, tapioca)
❤️Would I come back/recommend:
Yes – I would come back
Yes – I would DEFINITELY recommend
What took this great experience to the next level was the incredible service team led by Arni & Jordan. So gracious and accommodating (to my allergy). I opted for the reserve wine pairing which was incredible value (Egon Muller, DP2, Comte Lafon, Chateau d’Yquem etc etc) and Jordan knew two wine nerds when he saw one and went above and beyond on every detail.
I am so impressed that they knew we were all walking in with high expectations and they exceeded every single one. Bravo! Can’t wait to come back.
Service 5/5
Ambiance 5/5
Value 3.5/5
Atomix is currently ranked as the #1 restaurant in North America and #12 in the world for 2025. After a long wait to secure a reservation, we finally experienced their intimate chef’s table. At $1.1k for two, the cost is a major consideration, while it was a deeply memorable and intimate experience, I’m not certain the flavor to value ratio beats other top tier tasting menus like JUA and Jungsik.
Tasting menu as of 12/2025:
Pumpkin & Cinnamon Sikhye — 4.25/5
A warm, welcoming start. Sweet, comforting, and perfect for the holiday season.
Horse Mackerel — 4.25/5
Solid execution with great crunch and texture
Langoustine — 4.5/5
A mouthful of deliciousness. Slight earthy aroma, but the flavors worked well
Fried Bun with Monkfish & Caviar — 4.75/5
Our favorite among the starters—rich, indulgent, and bursting with flavor
Mains
Yellowtail, Sweet Bean, Squash, Macadamia — 4.25/5
On its own, the yellowtail wasn’t standout, but paired with the squash, the dish completely transformed into a bold, flavorful bite
Monkfish Liver — 4.25/5
Very rich and nourishing. Not the most exciting dish, but if you love foie gras, this would be an exceptional bite
Kohlrabi & King Crab — 4.75/5
Luxurious and comforting. A great palate cleanser—reminded my husband of a childhood dish his grandparents used to make
Abalone — 5/5
One of my favorites. I usually don’t enjoy abalone, but the texture and preparation here were flawless
Golden Eye Snapper — 4.5/5
The snapper was lovely, but the real star was the perfectly cooked mussel
Lobster — 5/5
My absolute fave of the night, and possibly one of the best lobsters I’ve ever had. Perfect texture, and the rice pairing was outstanding
Lamb — 3/5
Our least favorite. Very gamey, including the lamb noodle soup that paired with this—may appeal to some, but not for us
Passion Fruit Bingsoo — 5/5
Our absolute favorite dessert. The tartness from the passion fruit paired so so well with the Earl Grey–infused bingsoo, and the cream at the bottom tied everything together. We enjoyed every bite and honestly wanted more
Rice Ice Cream — 4/5
This leaned into the savory-sweet profile they described, a more traditional dessert. Well executed, but not quite our personal taste preference.
Second Date Drink — 4.75/5
Surprisingly refreshing and delicious. The makgeolli worked well, but the elderflower really stood out
To end the experience, they send you home with customized chopsticks and postcards detailing each dish’s ingredients and story, a thoughtful and memorable touch.
Aside from that, everything was amazing. The small bites, that mussel and banana foiegras dish, mind blowing. Cocktails great. The service and the personalized chopsticks were a fantastic touch. Atomix was just a hair off perfection for me but i still personally enjoyed it.
Each course is introduced with a beautifully crafted card that explains the inspiration and technique behind the dish. This format enriches the entire evening. The cards do not overwhelm; instead, they deepen your understanding of the flavors, the chef’s philosophy, and the cultural references embedded in every plate. It feels as though you are invited directly into the creative process.
The progression of dishes is both intellectually engaging and consistently delicious. The opening Pumpkin and Cinnamon Sikhye is elegant and comforting, setting a calm tone before the menu expands into more expressive flavors. The Horse Mackerel with Gim Bugak and Mustard Kimchi is precise, bright, and balanced. The Langoustine with Hakurei Turnip and Fava Jang shows extraordinary finesse.
Several courses stand out as some of the most memorable dishes I have had anywhere. The Monkfish Liver, Squid, and Tangerine combines richness, acidity, and marine depth with extraordinary clarity. The Kohlrabi, King Crab, and Kristal Caviar highlights the chefs’ use of nuruk as a modern ingredient, transforming a traditional fermentation starter into a refined sauce with remarkable complexity. The Lamb with Rye Doenjang, Perilla, and spicy lamb noodle is a powerful expression of Korean aromatics and craftsmanship.
Desserts continue the narrative rather than simply concluding the meal. The Passion Fruit with White Lotus Tea and Tapioca is delicate and refreshing, while the final Rice Ice Cream with Soybean Mousse and Honeycomb feels like a serene closing chapter, tying together comfort, technique, and elegance.
Service is impeccable throughout the evening. The team is attentive without ever being intrusive, and the pacing is flawless. The room itself is warm and intimate, supported by custom ceramics and thoughtful design details that complement the culinary experience.
Atomix is more than a restaurant. It is a deeply considered expression of Korean cuisine interpreted at the highest global level. The amount of care, craft, and intention in every detail makes the evening truly memorable. This is one of the most sophisticated and moving dining experiences in the world, and a place I would recommend without hesitation.
