My boyfriend and I arrived at Atlas Chicken Shack in Geneva this past Saturday (Nov 15) at 8:15 PM. We looked up the closing time of 8:30 PM. To our surprise, one employee was working alone. When they came to the window, we noticed a backpack on as if he was ready to leave. Now we can understand wanting to get out of your shift on a Saturday night, but both of us having experience in the service industry know you still have to provide good service till closing time.

I ordered a cheeseburger with no sauce and a Sprite, and my boyfriend ordered a chicken sandwich with an Arnold Palmer. We originally wanted mac and cheese, but it wasn’t available, so we chose the fried rice balls instead. We can understand some items that have a certain amount of prep or limited amounts and may not be available, so we worked with the options.

We waited for our food, which was fine. We were happy and appreciative that the food was being prepared fresh which is a testament to Atlas Chicken.

My boyfriend’s chicken sandwich and fried rice balls were good and you could tell had been freshly fried.

The issue was with the other half of the order. When he handed us the order, my Sprite was missing. He told me I didn’t order one… even though I clearly did. He charged us for the sprite and that was resolved no problem.

The bigger problem came when I checked my food. I opened my “cheeseburger” and the meat was undercooked, still visibly red and there was no cheese. We immediately tried to get the employee’s attention through the window, but he had already shut the lights off and was preparing to walk out.

When my boyfriend explained the issue, the employee insisted that I didn’t order a cheeseburger, even though it’s the standard item listed on the menu. At no time was there a confirmation of the order from the employee. Therefore to assume, the order came across as unprofessional and lacking accountability. He then told us he had turned off the stove at 8:00 PM, a full 30 minutes before closing, which explains why the burger was undercooked, he admitted it took longer for him to heat everything back up. We can appreciate the honesty but if that’s the case then please verify that the burger is cooked through before giving it to your customer. We were willing to be patient for a properly cooked meal.

He asked if we wanted the burger remade or a refund. Since it was clear he was rushing to leave and had already been careless, we chose the refund.

Hence this part of the experience was very disappointing. If the restaurant closes at 8:30 PM, employees should still be taking accurate orders and preparing food properly until that time. This lack of professionalism and accountability is unacceptable.

delicious and cheap spot for food!! would definitely recommend stopping here if you want a cheaper option in downtown geneva. i got a grilled chicken sandwich with house made coleslaw and a strawberry lemonade, and my friend got the 4-ish chicken tenders (it was exactly 4 chicken tenders!), fries, and a strawberry lemonade as well. it was only about $30 for both our meals and it was well worth it! the lemonade was AMAZING, so even if you dont want the food, atleast give the drinks a try! the seating was very cool too, i love the way you can just sit in the alleyway!

This hidden gem is amazing! The food is fresh and served hot, with top-notch ingredients that provide a wonderful homemade feel. Be sure to approach the window to place your order, then enjoy your meal outside at the picnic tables. Give it a try!

I don’t understand the positive reviews for this place!! The bar area in the back looked like a good time but the food is atrocious! It took them 20 minutes to make us a cheeseburger to go and it was RAW AND COLD! Guessing a frozen patty… no seasoning on it. We also ordered a side of Mac n cheese that was tasteless and runny. Even the ranch was runny like water with zero taste. Just a sad experience and we will never be back.

Cute little lunch spot. We shared the rice balls, he had the classic chicken sandwich which he inhaled within 5 minutes and I had the broccoli bowl without chicken. Both pretty good, always happy when I find a spot with “vegetarian” options even with the word chicken in the name. Would be cool to see either tofu or fake chicken options in the future

Located right in the center of downtown Geneva on third Street. Right across from the train station. There really is no indoor dining, you order at the window to go or there are a few tables for outdoor seating. Chicken sandwiches and chicken strips are delicious. You can choose whichever sauce you want. They also offer, french fries and grilled chicken.

We are long time Geneva residents and have grabbed lunch from the Shack 4 or 5 times. Sandwiches are ALWAYS on point and we have been loving the truly unique flavors of all the different chicken bowls they offer. Everything else is pretty basic and obviously fried so it can get a little heavy but combined with the wide variety of dipping sauces its hard not to keep eating. As far as the service goes it is what it is, you are ordering at a window and there is no white table cloths SO if thats your thing pick one of the other 20+ options within walking distance. The Atmosphere is totally unique for Geneva and oozes of the old school food shacks, huts and stands that use to be the goodie go-to in the fox river valley before all the chains moved in.
We suggest try it on a week day : )

I had an unpleasant experience the second time. Dorian the manager shrugged at me and I felt like he was discriminating me because of my autism and was dissatisfied with the service of his attitude. Food was ok. Might report this to the Better Business bureau

What fantastic food!! We were actually on our way to another restaurant when the smell of this food just caught us by surprise. Then we ended up risking it and eating here. That risk paid off in the payment of deliciously cooked fried chicken, biscuits, and a watermelon slushie. It’s a somewhat small interior that would only fit about seven people max, but there is a great outdoor area to eat. The pricing was very friendly for every patron, but I believe they could easily double their prices and still have just as many people waiting in line. I found myself craving Atlas again and again!

Outstanding chicken. From smell to crust to the tenderness and taste of the chicken is just outstanding!

Even the sauces were impeccable. Unique homey sauces that pairs excellent with the chicken.

Definitely gonna be a frequent customer here! It’s that finger licking good!
