We came to celebrate my birthday on February 25. We had a reservation for nine people under the name “Dede.” Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience with one specific server.
Everyone had already ordered their drinks, and my daughter specifically asked whether they offered bubble tea. Instead, the server brought her regular milk tea without the bubbles. When my daughter politely clarified that she had asked for bubble tea, the server visibly rolled her eyes. After returning with the drink again still incorrect, my daughter once more asked for the bubbles to be included, and the server rolled her eyes a second time — something our entire table clearly witnessed. This behavior was obvious, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable.
The situation immediately created a negative atmosphere at our table for the rest of the night. What was meant to be a joyful birthday celebration was overshadowed by this unnecessary attitude. My mother and mother-in-law were present and witnessed the entire interaction.
After we finished eating, the server approached the table as if nothing had happened and asked about a birthday cake. At that point, I preferred not to interact with her further. Nevertheless, she and other staff members came to sing Happy Birthday and brought out a cake. While the gesture may have been intended to improve the situation, it did not erase the earlier disrespect.
If a situation like this occurs, management should consider removing that server from the table for the remainder of the evening. Continuing to have the same person serve us only made the experience more uncomfortable. Guests come to celebrate special occasions and enjoy their time — not to deal with visible attitude or unprofessional behavior.
We are giving one star for service strictly due to this server’s conduct. The rest of the experience would have warranted a top rating.
To be clear, the food was excellent, the hibachi chef was fantastic, and the rest of the staff were kind and professional. However, this server’s behavior needs to be addressed seriously. No guest celebrating a special occasion should feel disrespected.
This type of conduct reflects poorly on the restaurant, and unless it is handled through proper retraining or corrective action, it makes us question whether we would return.
I ordered the expensive filet mignon dinner and it was cooked right up against the shrimp and scallops making my steak taste just like seafood, which I do not like! A couple of shrimp landed on my steak as he was flipping them. I chose to not eat it, but asked to take it home and see if my family might want it. I asked him to put it in a to go box. He took it and didn’t bring my to go filet back at all. He said he would make an adjustment to the bill, but he gave me a $10 gift card instead of taking the steak off. I will not be going back to Atami, so that gift card is no good to me. Very disappointing dinner – I had to pay for a filet mignon which I only got one bite of.
I wish Asahi were still there, it was always good.
Go somewhere else!
They recently added bubble tea to the menu, and now it’s a must -order drink every time we visit. It’s our family favorite spot now .
On top. At 1st booth an employee was obsessed w/ iPhone. I told that it was my husband’s birthday. Unlike before, no singing and taking photos as always.
I don’t think I will return. Mgmt who took over is awful. .
