The godfather of modern Peruvian cuisine, Gastón Acurio presides over a restaurant empire spanning the globe, but it all started 20 years back with pastry chef wife Astrid Gutsche at this eponymous establishment (albeit in a different location to now). A unique three-century-old colonial mansion setting adds a wow factor to the à la carte and tasting menus, which focus on Peruvian flavours. Acurio takes traditional dishes such as guinea pig and gives them the haute-cuisine treatment and Gutsche (Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef 2015) showcases cacao and tropical fruits in her desserts. Astrid y Gastón topped the inaugural Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2013 and Acurio went on to win the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. The space is beautiful with the inner courtyard with a tree of hanging colourful scarfes. The entire menu is delicious: drinks are fantastic. Loved the razor clams and the sea urchin ceviche and the scallop ceviche.

We made a mistake with our booking, and even so, they received us very kindly, which we really appreciated. The place has a special kind of magic, and the service was warm, professional and attentive. The food was very good overall. The only small point for me was the desserts, which were less sweet than I usually prefer, although that may simply be a matter of taste and style. The pricing felt fair, and in truth I expected it to be more expensive. We would happily return.

Our favorite dinner during our one-week Peruvian visit!
Beautiful restaurant, we loved the design and ambiance.
Very attentive service. We even met Astrid herself, she was kindly asking Clients how they were doing.
Excellent food!
What can I say? A beautiful, memorable experience.

I ordered the tasting menu priced at 899 soles and, including wine pairing, ended up paying close to 1,500 soles for the meal.
Guests who ordered the tasting menu were served in a separate area from those ordering à la carte.
The woman who appeared to be the owner came around to greet all the other guests in the tasting room and asked how their meals were, but she did not approach me at all.
I’m not sure whether it was intentional or not, but personally I found it unpleasant. At a restaurant offering a menu at this price point, it is unusual to see such a lack of attention to guests—especially if the person is the owner.

Absolutely amazing experience at Astrid y Gastón, and the perfect way to begin my Peruvian trip.
From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere and employees are welcoming and inviting.
Each bite of food was incredible, and I highly recommend the lucuma tiramisu if it’s available – a great representation of how fusion cuisine can elevate something.
I would come back to Lima just to eat at this restaurant again.

Astrid y Gastón is hands down my favourite restaurant in Lima. I have to come here each time I’m visiting. They have all classic peruvian dishes, but with a little twist. These are the better versions of already tasty dishes. I especially love banana and fried egg extension of lomo saltado. The seating area in the middle is beautiful and combination with the music makes unforgettable atmosphere. Reservation is recommend (reservations are usually seating indoor, so not in the middle with the tree). 5 out of 5.

The atmosphere and staff is amazing. The food is really good, but it’s not exceptional. There was one entree that was truly amazing, it was kind of a bite of guinea pig in of the photos that I posted. The duck buns where really good, but the sauce it was too sweet for my taste. The fish wellington it was ok, nothing special about it.

I just left Astrid and Gaston and had a wonderful experience. I visited at 1:15pm on a Monday. I paid Sol 889 for the 15 course meal plus Sol 699 for the wine pairing. It was well worth it given that they take you through so many varieties of flavors and dishes from Peru—they give you a booklet guide to everything you try. The service was wonderful too.

Elevated dining experience on par and in many ways above the great restaurants in Lima. The atmosphere is gorgeous and the patio dining is wonderful during the day. I enjoyed ceviche and sea bass as my appetizer and main course. Pair those with a pisco punch and it’s the perfect combination on a sunny afternoon. The service was great with several recommendations and perfect English.
There are several stellar reviews that I’ve written about Lima restaurants and this experience was one of the best!
