Asian Star – Gluten-Free Chinese Restaurant in Midvale, UT

Great selection of gluten free choices, including vegetarian gluten free. My favorite dish is the steamed fish with spicy ginger sauce.

My family and I love dining at Asian Star. The food is consistently delicious and beautifully presented, the service is exceptional, and the wait times are impressively fast. The restaurant’s decor and atmosphere are also perfect for any occasion, from casual dinners to special events.

One tip for weekends: Because it’s such a popular spot, the small parking lot fills up very quickly. I recommend planning ahead; we usually find a spot nearby and take a 5-minute walk to the restaurant to avoid the hassle.

I’ve been coming to this Chinese restaurant for years, and my most recent visit reminded me why it’s stayed one of my go-to spots. The first thing I noticed was the renovation. The place looks refreshed and thoughtfully updated, giving it a warmer, more modern vibe without losing the comfort I’ve always liked about it.

I’ll be honest, I did have a moment of sticker shock at the price increase, but with everything costing more these days, it felt understandable; especially considering what you get. My meal came with a side salad this time, which was a new touch and a nice surprise.

The real highlight, though, was the entrée. It came out quickly, piping hot, and tasted super fresh. And the portion? Massive. The kind of serving where you’re already planning leftovers before you’re halfway through the plate. For the quality and amount of food, it was absolutely worth the price.

Overall, this visit was an easy reminder that they’re still doing things right through improving the space, keeping the food consistently great, and delivering real value. I’ll definitely keep coming back. Loved it

Unfortunately this is just not what it used to be. Incredibly overpriced and not nearly the best Chinese food around. Fried rice barely had any mix ins in it.
We came for the lunar new year celebration and it was very lackluster. They had a bunch of young kids doing the lion dance rather than the professional dancers they used to bring in. I’m sure it’s not in the budget given how few people were in the restaurant.
Service was great.

This restaurant left us with some mixed feelings, which resulted in us taking a star off. Starting from the positives, we can say that the food was delicious and the hot green tea was also great. We tried egg drop soup, gyoza, shrimp lo main, and house special platter, which all were very well-prepared and tasted amazing. The food was also brought pretty much momentarily. The portions are large, so there is plenty of leftovers, which you can take home. The negative aspect was the service. The waitress was completely indifferent and seemed to be hyper rushed, even though the restaurant wasn’t even full, and there were a lot of other waitresses and workers walking around. She also did not come to the table to check on us, and wasn’t friendly during the limited interactions we had with her. While we were still eating she brought to-go boxes and the check without even saying anything. Lastly, they did not have Thai iced tea in stock, but it’s not a serious problem. Overall, we had a nice experience, but it was not outstanding, thus is undeserving of 5 stars.

If I could give no stars I would. I am not one to leave bad reviews and I have always enjoyed eating here, but this experience was appalling. I placed an online order that said it would be done in 20-30 minutes. I arrived 40-50 minutes past when I ordered it and 20 minutes past when it said it would be done. My food was over an hour past the time it said it was going to be done and not only that but the entire restaurant staff avoided the online order area the entire time. It was the most unprofessional and awful behavior from a business. I waited for 50 minutes only able to speak to someone for 1 second when I first arrived. The entire 50 minutes I was there they completed 2 to-go orders. There was a line stood at the to-go counter waiting to speak to the employees about getting their orders and they avoided talking to anyone. I’m absolutely appalled by the lack of customer service. Not even so much as an apology for being an hour and a half past the promised time and me sitting there for almost an hour with zero updates or communication at all.

Great service and delicious food! A bit pricey, but totally worth it. Best egg drop soup in Utah.

Asian Star,
Has top quality food that they serve.
I have eaten there few times & each & every time their food has been absolutely delicious.
I definitely recommend their platter of Sweet & Sour chicken with their house fried rice.
The food was fantastic, but the only thing I could suggest is adding more combination platters for two or more people.

We tried two lunch platters. The vegetables in the chicken and snow peas were crisp and tasted very fresh. The egg rolls were also delicious and tasted like they had been made in house. This restaurant is in a nice building with huge windows. Service was friendly and efficient.

Used to come here years ago and it was very good. Food was fresh and pretty good but service was weird and slow and not super friendly. It was too pricey for the quality however as I found it to be slightly better than a place like panda. The Kung pao was not hot at all which made me sad. I realized after that we were charged for 2 noodles and only got one. Wouldn’t come here again because taste vs price, just wasn’t there.
