I headed to Asian Express in Chicago fully knowing they had tacos, and I was there specifically for the al pastor taco I’d heard about. The taco didn’t disappoint, one of the best in Chicagoland. The steak taco was decent, but the real surprise was their al pastor fried rice, delicious! Don’t forget to ask for the homemade chili oil. It elevated the whole dish. If you’re up for a unique twist, this spot delivers. I’ll definitely be coming here again!

This place is incredible.

Monday has their $1.50 per taco Al Pastor Taco deal and it’s phenomenal.

Their Agua Fresca selection was robust and the Passionfruit + Limon Pepino (Cucumber Lemon) was delectable.

Our server Lucy was very personable, knowledgeable, and funny!

There was no wait when we came in at 5:30pm but a line as we left after 6:45pm.

Get yourself to Asian Cuisine Express early and on a Monday – you’ll be glad that you did.

I was genuinely blown away by this spot! While it’s primarily known for its Chinese cuisine, they also serve some of the most flavorful pastor tacos I’ve ever tasted — perfectly seasoned, tender, and absolutely satisfying. The asada tacos are just as impressive, packed with rich, savory goodness that keeps you coming back for more. Beyond the incredible food, the staff makes the experience even better — warm, approachable, and genuinely eager to make you feel welcome. The combination of unexpected culinary delights and friendly service makes this place a true hidden gem. If you’re in the area and looking for something a little different, it’s absolutely worth a visit — a unique fusion of flavors and hospitality that leaves a lasting impression.

Really some of the best Tacos Al Pastor I’ve ever had! Absolutely amazing! Will be retiring asap to try some of their other menu items especially interested in the Pastor Pineapple Fried Rice, saw a few customers eating it and it looked delicious and well presented. Total unassuming spot and BYOB! Place is a gem. Heads up tho no Air Conditioning so the place is hot hot hot on a summer night or day it was 97 outside and prob just as hot inside lol I don’t know how they do it all day but it was well worth it. The salsas are great too the orange habanero is really tasty and spicy if ya like the heat!

Came in hungry, left happy, and slightly emotionally attached to the al pastor fried rice. I don’t know who decided to put al pastor and fried rice together, but that person deserves a raise, a trophy, and maybe their own holiday. Every bite was smoky, savory, and dangerously addictive—I’m still thinking about it.
And let’s talk about the drinks for a second — the horchata and aguas frescas are on another level. Cold, refreshing, perfectly sweet, and exactly what you want alongside a plate of hot fried rice. Not an afterthought at all… these drinks could easily steal the spotlight if the food wasn’t already so good.
The staff was just as great as the menu. Super friendly, welcoming, and they make you feel like a regular even if it’s your first visit. Food comes out hot, fresh, and fast, which is dangerous because now it’s way too easy to keep coming back.
If you’re anywhere near 31st Street and not stopping here, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Come for the fried rice, cool down with the horchata, and leave already planning your next order.

The Al Pastor is a definite must get!! They’ve mastered the adobo marinade that goes on the pork truly just wonderful and delicious . The service was great our server was very attentive and friendly. The rest of my order was delicious but I really came here for the Al Pastor which like I said before it’s worth it and if you’re on a budget I recommend coming in on Mondays when the Al Pastor taco is only 1.50
