After losing some of our favorite local Ethiopian spots, my family went searching for a new go to. This place exceeded every expectation.
The photo shows the family platter for six, and we ordered it exactly as listed. There were four of us, and we love steak and meat, so we worried it might not be enough. We were wrong.
The portions were generous. The steak serving was substantial, and every piece was tender with no low quality cuts mixed in. That stood out. The kitchen clearly understands how this food should be prepared and served. They raised our standard for Ethiopian food in this city.
Thank you for an incredible experience. It felt like a little vacation, We will absolutely be back.

We lived in DC where there were a lot of Ethiopian restaurants so I had high hopes.
Ashu did not disappoint! It was a cute restaurant but even better was the smell of the delicious food. I ordered the kitfo special and zilzil tibs to go and both had great portions. The spice level I’d say was mild to medium.
If you love Ethiopian food, do not sleep on this place! ❤️

This is one of the worst Ethiopian restaurant experiences I’ve had in Portland.
I’ve visited this place a few times, but today was by far the most disappointing. I ordered a Kitfo raw meat, and what I received was not fit to be served. As shown in the photo, the quality of the meat was extremely poor and unacceptable.
Additionally, the service is not based on first-come, first-served. There appears to be clear favoritism toward customers the owners know, while others are treated differently. Every paying customer deserves equal service and respect — my money is no different from anyone else’s.
I hope the restaurant improves its food quality and treats all customers fairly.

I recently placed an order for a takeaway assortment featuring a variety of raw meats, including ሰምበር, ጉበት, and ቁርጥ. The unique and flavorful composition of this selection was particularly impressive. The portion size is suitable for four servings. I commend Ashu for this innovative culinary creation. I highly recommend this exceptional dish.

Just FYI it is not my restaurant! Today is grand opening and I was the first one to be there. The business is well organized and the servers are very welcoming. I ordered “Kurt” and roast which were amazing and delicious. When it comes to the price, I was shocked to learn they are underpriced. I really enjoyed this Ashu Ethiopian restaurant! The food was amazing everything tasted fresh and authentic. The injera was soft and perfect, and the flavors reminded me of home. Came in for the first time tonight for takeout. We came in much later than the standard dinner time and had some of the most delicious Ethiopian food that we have had in the Portland area. Very kind folks and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Highly recommend to anyone who loves good food.
