This place looks pretty and nice, but it’s not as good as it seems. The chairs and tables are comfy and the lights are a little dim, but there’s no music playing. The person who helped us wasn’t very friendly and didn’t make our dinner fun. The food was okay. I had a steak that was a little too expensive and the burger was a little burnt. My sister liked her salmon though. We had yummy cookies and cream for dessert! But, there are better places to eat nearby and we probably won’t come back here again.

If you have never been to Ashten’s, you need to book a reservation ASAP! Seriously grab your friends or a date and GO! The restaurant itself is BEAUTIFUL from its pressed tin ceiling, hanging crystal chandeliers, romantic dim candle lighting, red dramatic walls, velvet chairs, and an intricate wood bar that was imported from England. The menu incorporates the finest of local NC ingredients to create Southern inspired gourmet dishes. The menu changes seasonally. The craft cocktails are fun and creative. I loved all the fizz in the cherry Blossom! My husband was a huge fan of the bourbon drinks. They have a nice selection of beer and wine also. For starters we enjoyed the Burrata, Low Country Crab Cake, Artichoke Heart Pops, and Rueben Egg Rolls. All were incredible. I honestly could not pick a favorite. For entrees, we enjoyed the Slow Braised Pork Shank, Crispy Mapleleaf Farms Duck, and Pan Seared VerLasso Salmon. Everything was cooked to perfection. The pork shank was tender and fell right off the bone. It was served over handmade gnocchi. The duck’s skin was crispy served over crispy rice that was cooked in duck fat. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a delicious buttered Tamari glaze served over a coconut rice. We finished with a chocolate cake with a salted caramel frosting…. YUM! The service was also excellent. Madison (our server) went above and beyond explaining the details of the specials on menu items. She never allowed our drinks to go empty. Her warm and friendly personality added to a perfect dining experience. I can’t wait to go back for Sunday supper and wine tasting.

The food was delicious, the service was a huge let down. The front staff need training or better guidance. We, and other tables had to ask for drinks refills. We ordered dessert and our server asked us if we had received it yet…the table had no plates or utensils, no probably not.

I dined in the library òn the lower level. The event was extremely interesting. The service was fabulous. I will return with my hubby to enjoy more of their fine dining dishes. Loved the salmon, reuben egg rolls and the cherry blossom

Celebrated a friend’s birthday at Ashten’s this weekend. Service for drinks were a tad slow. Overall I felt the server was lovely and attentive to our group. Enjoyed every bite of my Crispy Maple Leaf Duck!

First off our waiter was absolutely very attentive, inviting yet very professional in the pub/ bar area which is where we sat. I ordered fish and chips and hubby had a fish dish which was one of the specials. My hubby had the Arnold Palmer drink and I had white wine and those were very good. Everything was absolutely delicious. I give 5 stars and would love to come back! My waiter actually ran me down once I forgot my leftovers. Amazing service!

Tasty but overrated. We had the locally sourced tasting menu. While the flavors were good, they were not exciting or that interesting. $130 for two. I think developing more sophisticated complex flavor experiences would make the reservation worthwhile. We were also hungry again shortly after, so perhaps add a 4th course to the tasting menu to make it more worthwhile. Finally, the dessert was again tasty but visually underwhelming. Macaroons were very good though plain vanilla.

The food is great and there is always something new to try. That makes it even more impressive that the incredible service is the best part of going to Ashten’s. I swear, they hire the nicest people and that alone will keep me coming back every chance I get.
