All in all a decent roadside dairy bar that I’ve stopped at a few times on my way back and forth from CT to RI. The food isn’t bad and it comes out in a reasonable amount of time if you get there before or after the lunch crowd, but you can say that about any place that sells food. Took about 10-15 minutes to get my food with five folks ahead of me in the order.

I just love the Ashford Dairy Bar in Connecticut. The service is always prompt and the staff always have a warm and welcoming smile. We aren’t from the Northeast corner, however, when we’re visiting J.N. Webster Scout Reservation, we always find time for the dairy bar. The ice cream and the fish and chips are delicious and leave a lasting impression. So, if you’re ever on Route 44 in Ashford, CT, check out this wonderful establishment.

In case you haven’t seen my previous reviews, this is my favorite type of restaurant, and I am all about the burger!
So imagine my dismay when I drove all the way to Ashford and found they were temporarily out of ground beef! (Rest easy. More was delivered while I was there.)
On this trip, I got the chicken sandwich. Please don’t judge the sandwich by the picture. It comes with lettuce, tomato, and a special sauce… none of which I like. I just added bbq sauce.
The food was hot, plentiful, and delicious. They serve both hard and soft ice cream, but I abstained this time.
There are tables in the open and under cover.
I highly recommend and will be returning for more!

I ordered chili, fries, and a double cheeseburger. The chili was disappointing. It was about a step above canned. The fries were decent, a nice shoestring style. The burger was nicely done, fresh, hot, and tasty. On a scale from 0-10 I would rate this 7.6.

This place has changed quite a bit since coming under new ownership. Ordered two cheese burgers and fries. The burgers were just ok, on the bland side and the cheese was practically non existent! Where’s the cheese???!!!!
I gotta say the fries were excellent!!
Their prices are definitely on the high side, $30 for 2 cheeseburgers 2 fries and two cans of coke!! I could of went to a restaurant for that price. Lol!!
Now for the ice cream, we got two small soft serve cones which were very good in size and quality but they were already melting when they were handed to us!
And it wasn’t a hot day 70 degrees out.
I’ve been going here for many many years, but this was my first time since new ownership. Sad to see how a once great place to go can change so much for the worse.
Also it was once an extremely busy place,we stopped in at 6pm on a Friday evening and there were only 2 other customers and a couple more showed up when we were leaving. Unfortunately two of those customers looked at the menu and left. Must be the prices.

Prices were ridiculous. This small ice cream with hot fudge was around $6.50. The hot fudge almost seemed expired and the ice cream itself was fine but seem to be missing things from the description. Portions for the price was extremely disappointing. We will not be going back.

I stopped here on my bike trip. Had only drinks and enjoyed my snacks. Staff was very nice and friendly. I have saved this place for future visit as it looks very nice. Lots of parking and place to sit (covered). There are not a lot of dining options in the area so you should stop here. I really enjoyed this cola drink with 33g of sugar 😀 perfect fuel on my bike day trip.

You can tell this local dairy bar is under new ownership. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. My family went the other night. Fish sandwich (loved by my husband ). Daughter in law had a delicious cheeseburger. My son and I were looking forward to a good foot long hot dog, and they delivered! Ice cream was excellent too! Can’t wait to go back.

The food is usually really good, orders take a little while but they charge $4.00 for potato salad and it’s three bites. And make sure to double check your take out orders before you leave. Lots of stuff missing.

Ashford Dairy apparently has changed hands because the food is not what used to be served. The fish and chips had less fish (overcooked with no coleslaw or soup but plenty of tarter sauce) for a higher price. The burger was decent but when asked for ketchup, “we already gave you two packets.” (Only for the f&c) So bring your own condiments.
