Asena

  4.6 – 313 reviews  $$ • Mediterranean restaurant

Our menu features seasonal cuisine informed by our Mediterranean roots. We grew up in kitchens where our mothers cured their own olives, baked their own breads, and made food fresh from seasonal ingredients. We carry on this tradition each and every day by baking our own bread, rolling our own fresh pasta, curing salmon, preserving lemon, whatever we can do to replicate the delicate flavors of the tables we grew up around. In addition, we feature a comprehensive wine list with many small labels and hidden gems, as well as a boutique bar with specialty cocktails. We are fortunate to enjoy the benefits of the many sustainable agricultural businesses in the area, and feature fresh, seasonal and local ingredients, and organic whenever possible.

Cozy gray-walled eatery decked with paintings serving Mediterranean cuisine with a Cali twist.

Pretty decent Italian place. Had the Paella and the Tiramisu. The Tiramisu wasn’t anything to write home about if you’re a tiramisu fan. Needed that kind of soaked liquor flavor that was missing.

Loved it! Simple and great food with a cozy, lovely atmosphere. I loved the fava bean ravioli with ricotta and fresh mint. They serve their housemade focaccia and have a great selection of wines. Lovely dessert menu too.

What a delicious find! We searched for “outdoor dining” near us after a gorgeous sunset walk on Crown Beach. We had the heated garden to ourselves! The owner (I think) described how everything is house-made—from the complimentary focaccia to the bucatini; he talked me into the perfectly-fileted branzino with caper lemon butter.

Haven’t been here since before Covid. Can I just say how great this place is? Covid has thrown everyone for a loop but Asena has made the most of it. They’ve created a wonderfully beautiful and warm little courtyard. The service is as friendly as ever. The food is delicious, well portioned and fair priced. My husband and I went for an early Valentine’s date. Started with the endive salad and spanikopita. My husband said it was the best spanikopita he’s had. Light and not greasy at all. I had the pasta – the mushrooms were sautéed deliciously, I could’ve eaten a whole bowl. The Hubs got the special – Parmesan crusted sea bass. Super tasty. We didn’t have room for dessert but will definitely plan better next time cause there will most certainly BE a next time.

Wow. I’d go back for the service alone. This place came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. The duck ravioli and paella were out of this world. Asparagus soup and lamb filled mushroom caps were phenomenal. I’m going back.
