They are famous on social media for their fun videos, but the owner and the staff here are true professionals who are genuinely dedicated to Japanese cuisine!
We visited with family and close friends to celebrate, and enjoyed a full course meal. Since I’m pregnant, they kindly prepared a special menu without raw items just for me, which I truly appreciated. It had been a long time since I last had Japanese food this delicious, and I was really touched. The creative use of ingredients like truffle and cilantro made the course exciting to enjoy all the way to the end. Not only the fish, but also carefully selected ingredients like tomatoes and Brussels sprouts were outstanding, showing their dedication to quality.
After dining here, I completely understand why this place has been loved for so many years!

I went for a birthday celebration and had a set sushi course. The sushi was delicious however I wouldn’t say anything particularly stood out to me in terms of taste or presentation. I do remember the intro chauwanmushi and wagyu “tacos” were pretty good. The staff was very attentive and the energy of the room was very good. Maybe I built it up too much in my head based on reading previous reviews

One of the best, like top 3 best spots in L.A. for the freshest fish sushi It can be pricey to some. For dinner of 3 last night I spent about $600 with tip. We were all comfortably full. I had 3 draft beers, 2 sake and a good amount of Hand Rolls, Cut Rolls and appetizers. Be aware of the price. For me it’s all well worth it! Excellent fresh fish just came in from Japan My kind of sushi spot!

my wife and I came here the day after Valentines day. Service, impeccable; food, unmatched. They were 100% on top of service and it was definitely a great experience. They were nice, caring and very aware of what was going on. The food was on another level, extremely fresh, very flavorful and unique. The only negative I have is that its a small space and not much room but they did great to make sure the table doesn’t get cluttered. Also, be sure to try their lava cake.

The good: tuna red meet, deep fried soft-shell crab are both extraordinary. Also the scallops with truffle and uni give good rich month feel. House sake goes well with seafood.

To be desired: some of the spice and seasoning are overwhelming – truffle in the sea bass makes the sea bass tasteless only texture remain, some of the spicy paste is too strong (I need to leverage a lot of tea great tea to clear my palate), the wagyu sushi is supposed by the crescent of the night, it is has too much fibre.

Overall: it is a decent restaurant worth try, but the innovation maybe too aggressive in taste and texture.

Will I come back? Yes, if I’m in town again – for the sake!

This is one of the absolute best and must-visit sushi restaurants in Los Angeles.

I made an early reservation for Friday night at 5:30 but arrived around 5:15. I was the only diner for almost an hour but had the honor of sitting at the bar in front of Chef Tetsu’s station and he is seriously one of the nicest, most humble, and most talented sushi chef’s in Los Angeles, in California, in the USA, in the world.

I kept ordering dish after dish, fish after fish, because each and every item put in front of me was so fresh, unique, flavorful, and delicious.

Chef Tetsu is very welcoming and happy to talk about all things sushi, Japan, his restaurant, staff, and more. His staff too are all so incredibly kind and attentive.

I loved all the nigiri, each one with a complex and unique flavor profile. My favorites were the golden baby snapper, zuke tuna, marinaded salmon. The miso black cod was so soft, umami filled and delicious. The truffle was outstanding. The spicy tuna crispy rice was perfect. The yaki toro was seriously butter. The scallops were incredible. The ono handroll was excellent. Everything was sublime.

Worth every single penny and every single second at Asanebo. I can’t recommend this place enough
