This place is a gem. It’s a takeout local bakery with plenty of delicious options. Some of my favorites are the focaccia (best one I’ve ever had), triple chocolate cookie, and the garlic twist. It’s a bit expensive but the bread & pastries are very fresh and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. Every time I bring some of their stuff home, my (very health conscious) partner and kids devour everything within a day

My favorite bakery in San Leandro! Everything is delicious – be sure to pop by regularly to try their seasonal noshes, especially their hand pies!

My favorites: cardamom roll, everything knot, and their pretzel.

Always excellent bread and pastries. Today was my first time to try a sandwich – the best tuna salad I’ve ever had, on a terrific baguette.

This week, Feb 2026, they open a shop in the San Leandro Library main branch!

As kneeded is one of the best bakeries in the east bay.
Their beard is consistently good and priced fairly. They sell central milling flour by the pound five lb bag.
Their pretzels are the closest thing to a German pretzel I’ve found in the Bay Area. Chewy with a bit a bite from the lye bath, brown on the outside with a white slightly sweet interior. Though their arms could be a hair thinner and crispier.
Breads are excellent with their porridge loaf being outstanding.
Only reason I give four stars for atmosphere is that they don’t feel cozy but more working bakery with the front counter blending right into the bakery in the back.

Best bread in the East Bay. The sesame miche is full of flavor and perfectly baked. Moist and chewy. The focaccia is wonderfully buttery and fluffy. It’s in a modest storefront with plenty of street parking right outside.

I finally found some time to visit As kneaded bakery in San Leandro. This is not a cafe, just a bakery and the caged up liquor store next store makes the area look grittier than it is.

There’s a lot to like about this bakery. I arrived near closing and was greetly by a friendly person at the door. I got the honey sage foccaccia and flax and sun flower loaf.

The foccacia is probably different from what you get from other bakeries. Less bready, perhaps more oily, and the honey glaze definitely makes their version sweeter. Nonetheless, I think tastes great. The sage is not overpowering and strikes the right balance between sweet and savory.

The flax sunflower loaf is heavy and hearty, but as advertised on the bag, it retains a light and open (somewhat spongy) texture. Its hardly sour and the seeds provide a nice aftertaste

Their breads and pastries are not cheap but this is a locally owned business that genuinely wants to offer quality products. As the numerous awards attest to, that’s worthy of support. I’ll go back and buy more.

Thanks to As Kneaded Bakery San Leandro has one of the best bakeries in the world. The Pain D’Epi is amazing as is their sandwiches especially the curried cauliflower sandwich. Just perfection.

They are now selling their own delicious croissants.

Hidden gem that a co-worker shared with me- as so glad that they did! I pop in from time to time to pick up some local fresh baked goodies like the Bostock (my favorite), fresh baguettes and tried a new cookie (Almond toffee) all so good. This place is a treat & serving up quality baked goods 🙂

The best bread in the East Bay. I always go there and buy more than one. And more sweets on the top. Cookies and the blueberry crisp. Omg. So good!

It’s a good small bakery store to just select and pick-up the available bread of choice and go but you can also call them up to reserve your bread. Selection might be sparse at times but good quality thus far. The store does not offer much in terms of esthetics nor it offers any other options such as drinks, just bread at this time.
