Total happy accident finding this place! We just happened to run into Armstrong while exploring the area, and it was easily the highlight of our day. It has that authentic local feel, and every single thing we ordered was top-tier. So glad we stumbled upon it—we’ll definitely be back!

Okay. I have been coming here for years and have always loved it. The food, the atmosphere, the service and the price. Yes it’s cash or check only so no debit cards here.
Food – food was good. We had pork chops, catfish and a burger. All were good. Could use some seasoning but other than that was delicious. We did ask for barbecue chips and they sent out plain which was not that big of a deal. We could have asked to fix this but our choice not to. But season a little bit id all I ask.
Service – They were busy ( Saturday night @ 5:40pm ) but the two cooks stayed on it and we arrived and ate in an hour and 5 minutes which I thought was a great job. Cudos to the cook staff. There were two waitresses and they stayed busy and our glasses stayed filled. Good job ladies.
Atmosphere- I love the old diner style places, they feel warm and cozy. Lots of smiles at tables all around us. BATHROOMS WERE CLEAN!!!! This a must for me when I go out to eat. They have big screen TV for those that care about that.
All in all it was a good visit. Why didn’t I give it all 5’s you ask? I never give all 5’s.

New patrons, be sure to have Cash or Check. Excellent spot for a traditional breakfast. Atmosphere feels very “local and at home”. Staff were extremely pleasant and the fellow patrons were also very courteous and inviting. Food was prepared excellently. 4 star rating as the establishment does not accept credit cards.

We were there on Saturday. Waited about 5 minutes before anyone came to take our order. Waited another 10 minutes for our drinks, water and a sweet tea. After being there for 30 minutes our waitress starts screaming and yelling at the cooks. 3 couples came in after us. All 3 tables got their food. They had a different waitress. We are still waiting. After 40 minutes we left. We left the money on the table for the tea. The waitress was standing near the door when we left. Never said a word to us. We had heard nothing but good things about this place but we won’t be back.

I was coming off a long road trip. I was very hungry and wanted some good home cooking. For a supposed home cooking place like this, it seems like they could do better on their sides. The main meal comes with two sides and there are only four options mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, baked apples, and I forgot one other. A side salad that you see in the photo cost me two dollars extra and it was the smallest side salad I never seen. I ordered liver and onions, which in itself was very good except the liver was literally a little over a quarter of an inch thick. That made it a little bit chewy and dry. The gravy & mashed potatoes was great. Later I saw on like a chalkboard specials of the day and they had lima beans on that but it wasn’t on the menu so I asked to add that and they were very good. The only reason I’m giving them a three out of four or five is because, the side salad was so small that they charged me two more dollars and that the liver was so skinny and a little chewy. The waitress that was at the counter had short hair kind of sandy blonde and wore glasses. She was kind of short with me, and a gentleman came in to order some chili and she flat out told him no he couldn’t do that. He wanted enough chili to feed 12 and she told him that wasn’t enough time that he needed 24 hours ahead and he said well I’m gonna pick it up tomorrow at the same time which is 24 hours and she said no that’s not enough time. Another waitress heard her and said, let me ask the cook in the cook said yes. How rude is that so that’s why they’re getting a three instead of a four.

Only reason I even leaving a review is because the place use to be excellent, now there is no nice way of saying sucks!!!! Waited 10 minutes to get a waitress 20 into get refills and another 10 min for them to tell us they didn’t have the food we ordered. It was not at all how it use to be!!! Shape up or close down!! They only have like 5 sides and it is iffy if they had the main part of your order. 2 different orders and they didn’t have the meat!

Had breakfast and the food was delicious. Pancakes, French toast and omelet all hit the spot. Can’t beat the price and the great down home fill. The waitresses are the best.

We were driving for the last 33 hours and we’re craving good home cooking at a gas station down the road looking for a good home cooked meal found this place. I’m glad. That we did best food on our whole entire week trip and they were quick with our food and excellent specials. We had it within minutes. Food price very reasonable, great community atmosphere , great selections , very courteous will definitely make sure I come through here again. Would recommend any specials are running and anything that would be on the menu. Grilled chicken. And that hit the spot!!! Made our trip home for Schuylkill YHEC eastern regional Nationals more memorable!!

Three weeks ago I had the best large Philly cheese steak sandwich ever at Armstrongs; Friday 11/14 I had the worst, no cheese, 1/2 cup beef, no onions and three huge lettuce leafs and two tomato slices. The bun had been microwaved and was tough and impossible to bite. Had planned on ordering pie for dessert but we paid our check, left hungry and crossed the street for a Dairy Queen lunch instead. The cook was out sick and the substitute kept us waiting for 30 minutes to get our inedible sandwiches. The waitress was very sweet and apologetic, but our foursome won’t be back.
