I love, love, love, Arigato Sushi! I haven’t had a sushi roll, yet, that looks or tastes cheap. My seven or eight go-to rolls are all fantastic! And the prices are very reasonable, especially for dining in San Luis Obispo. You’re looking at $10 to $14 rolls on their discount menu. One roll is adequate for most people at lunch time. If you’re extra hungry, I recommend ordering a whole roll for yourselves, and splitting a third roll with your dining partner.

Stopped in SLO for the night and found this little sushi joint for dinner. Wonderful, friendly, helpful employees. The sushi rolls were large and filling. The mussels were incredible! The price was better than most sushi places we’ve been to as well. We ordered four rolls, mussels, a side of white rice, and a miso soup. Our total was around $60! That’s an incredible value! We are looking forward to going back!

Started with the spicy garlic edamame and eh not that good, just get the plain. The scallop lover roll looked extravagant, however the roll tasted DRY. It also lacked any flavor at all and I had no interest on eating it after the first bite – it was kind of gross. The other 2 rolls however were delicious and I did like the nigiri! Not the best quality fish but decent for the price.
They should extend their hours. Multiple people waiting for a table still at 8-8:30pm. Last call at 9:15pm so we were rushed to order once we got a table at 9pm. Slightly annoying that the hostess made it seem at 8:30 that we wouldn’t get a table so we went elsewhere despite putting our name in. About 10 min later she called to say our table was ready, which wasted more time.

Recently renovated and looks really good. My family enjoys the yellow menu, half-off items. Though they are half-off, it does not mean the food is bad in any way, at least at this restaurant it’s not. I just get the rolls and they are good!!! I keep forgetting to take pictures, sorry. I like the Spicy Dragon, and the Kiss on the Beach.
Circular container is the Baked Shell Fish
The rolls from front to back are:
-Super Dragon roll – deep fried
-Spicy Philadelphia
-Ocean’s 11
-Kiss on the Beach in way back, not a good pic of it.

We were looking for a restaurant and decided to try Arigato Sushi.
I’m so pleased that we did. The food was all excellent. We ordered 4 rolls from the happy hour menu at a great price, spicy edamame, miso soup, mixed tempura, which was some of the best I’ve had in years. Cooked perfectly with a very light crispy panko coating and no greasy taste. I also got grilled yellow tail with vegetables, it was a large portion and such a treat.
We all left full, but everything was so light and healthy that we went for a long walk with the dog. Everyone was smiling

The food was really good, this is my second try dining in. No reservation needed, but I get there as soon as they open because it gets crowded specially on weekends. I have been trying sushi places and this is the one I love the most. The nigiri toro is amazing as well as the seared salmon nigiri and squid nigiri. I have will attach some of the picture I was able to take since it was so good I immediately grab my food cause I couldn’t waste great food for a picture (LOL).
The miso soup is great for appetizer, I sat at the bar where is was the most service I could get (the restaurant is low on servers, they are looking to hire) I was patient and understating I waited patiently, the chef even gave us a complimentary meal. Which is why the 4 star.
The environment in the restaurant needs work; in cleaning overall and organization in their storage spaces. And the bathroom could be better. I recommend to try their sushi because despite everything it is worth it and the price is really good. I hope you enjoy your dinner and try their nigiri dishes.
Update:
I keep visiting this restaurant and it is my to go sushi place whenever I’m in SLO. I love it!! I added more pictures of my latest visit. My favorite nigiri are otoro and salmon.

Experience and food was amazing. We came in from out of town and a friend had recommended this sushi spot. Soooo glad she did! We tried a few different rolls and the fried tempura ice cream! Everyone was so sweet. Masks on and all tables were 6 plus feet apart!

While staying at the Ritz Carlton Bacara, We visited this restaurant after reading the reviews. Our server Ariel was very knowledgeable and patient. Everything we ordered was very good and the taste to remember. We were seated outside which was perfect for the weather and had a heater right next to our table which kept us warm enough. To reach this place you would have to park your car right behind the restaurant and it’s about a 4 to 5 minute walk to this place.
I would recommend to be seated outside during this season.

The staff is friendly, the space is clean and the sushi was ok. I wish they had more choices of sushi and a warmer environment, it was freezing inside. Basic, will likely choose a different place next time.

Unfortunately, one of the worst “Japanese” restaurants that I ate in. No Japanese chefs. The food lacked taste, rolls were thin on fish, some boiled fish instead of raw fish in Baked scallop fish dish. The atmosphere was not very pleasant either. Will never come back.
