Homemade ramen broth simmered slowly for 12+ hours in-house daily, along with house-made chashu pork, miso sauces, and our signature kaeshi (soy seasoning base) — the soul of tonkotsu ramen. One of the few ramen shops in Virginia crafting kaeshi from scratch. Our boba drinks are also made with real brewed tea leaves every morning — never powder. Reviews
However… the menu was small, so I usually assume that means what they do have should be really good right? While the ramen was pretty good, the gyoza and shrimp tempura were honestly bland. And the sauce they came with didn’t do much to help. And as others mentioned, this is a great place if you don’t want to be talked to. But considering I ordered a regular miso ramen and I got a spicy and then couldn’t even flag someone down much less get someone to understand my issue really irritated me.
There were plenty of wait staff just standing around and there was only three other groups besides us.
I will definitely go back at the end of the day! But I’m hoping management will see peoples reviews and maybe entice the staff to be a little more friendly.
all orders were place on a screen right at the table.
not sure if it was just the season changing and they couldn’t determine whether or not to turn on heat or cooling but it was chilly in the restaurant
We also tried the gyoza dumplings, which were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and easily some of the best I’ve had anywhere. Everything tasted fresh and made with care.
The staff were friendly and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere made it a great place to relax and enjoy a comforting bowl of ramen. I’ll definitely be coming back. I highly recommend Araki Ramen to anyone craving authentic, flavorful Japanese comfort food!
I saw some reviews saying that the host was rude and that they couldn’t get booth seating, but we honestly had no issue with that. The staff were polite, answering our questions and clearing our table of finished plates promptly, and we got a booth seat.
Now for the negatives: The food itself was just okay— the ginger and wasabi served with the sushi was old and tasted off, and the rice was a little dry. Though my friend got a ramen (not pictured) and she said it was great. We also ordered a karaage, and it was cooked very well but lacked some seasoning.
One of the servers did hang around the area where everyone was sitting and lounged around with this really bored/sad look? And when they came to take plates there they just sounded exhausted. There was always this awkward atmosphere when the servers came around.
Overall we had a pretty good time here and we enjoyed our meals. I don’t know if I’d come back, though.
Araki Ramen Japanese Restaurant is hands-down my favorite Japanese spot in Northern Virginia. The moment you step inside, you’re transported to a little slice of Tokyo. Between the glowing red lanterns, cherry blossom décor, and cozy izakaya ambiance, it’s absolutely stunning. You’ll want to take a photo before you even sit down!
Now the food — incredible. Their ramen is a warm, soul-hugging bowl of perfection — deeply flavorful broth, springy noodles, and tender slices of pork that melt in your mouth. But don’t stop there — the crab croquettes are golden and crisp on the outside with rich, creamy crab filling inside. Pure comfort food! And if you’re a fan of street food classics, the takoyaki is some of the best I’ve had — crispy on the outside, gooey inside, and topped with just the right touch of bonito flakes and sauce. Absolutely addicting.
They also have a great drink selection — I really appreciated the option to have a cold Orion beer, straight from Okinawa. It pairs perfectly with the izakaya-style dishes.
What really elevates Araki is the people. The owners and staff are truly wonderful — warm, attentive, and passionate about what they do. You can tell this is a labor of love, and they go out of their way to make sure every guest feels welcome.
Whether you’re coming for a casual dinner or looking to impress someone with a special night out, Araki delivers on all fronts: food, atmosphere, and service. I keep bringing friends here and every time, they leave impressed.
Highly recommend this local treasure. Araki is doing everything right!
However, the dishes I ordered did not fully meet those expectations. The almond milk tea was refreshing, and I appreciated the option to customize the level of sweetness; however, I noticed that a significant portion was ice. The classic tonkatsu ramen was notably salty, which made it difficult for me to enjoy the broth despite the noodles being nicely prepared and not fried. The takoyaki was satisfactory but could benefit from having more tako(octopus) pieces in each ball.
