Came to Memphis looking for the best Black‑owned barbecue. This was not it.
What I got was basically boil‑BQ. How do you serve rib tips with connective tissue still running through them? The meat was extremely tough, had no flavor, and honestly tasted like boiled chicken. I’m genuinely disappointed in Memphis right now.
I’ve had incredible barbecue everywhere — Texas, Kansas City, even back home in Baltimore — and this didn’t come close. The sauce tasted like sweet ketchup. Horrible. Absolutely not worth the money, not worth the time, and just flat‑out disappointing.
I’m mad because I Googled “best Black‑owned barbecue in Memphis,” and this place came up at the top. I should’ve tried The Four Way first, but they weren’t open.

I ordered my food online. It was good except my friend and I received barbecue sauce all over our fries. The ribs were tender as always but my fries were soggy with the sauce. No complaints at all. So if ordering rib tips online, tell them no sauce on the fries.

I had the pork ribs sandwich and i gotta say that was annoying. It’s four pork ribs with slaw between white bread. It’s not like you hold it by the bread and eat it. I had to pick apart each rib and eat the bread and slaw separate.
The service is meh! The price is different from the price your asked to pay. Menu needs to be updated.

If you’re looking for the best in Memphis BBQ sandwiches be sure and stop here. We came in at 1:00 pm and it was a steady stream of customers right through the time we left. Freda is the person at the front to deal with and she’s a super order taker, hostess and waitress when needed. Can’t wait to come back and try some of the other items.
EDIT: came back a year later and got a rack of ribs. Delicious.

Hands down, the best BBQ I’ve had in Memphis, the cashier was too funny and very friendly. It was my first time eating here, and I must say everything was on point. The ribs, sauce, potato salad, and baked beans were all fresh, food was hot, and tasted like real BBQ should. A little smoke flavor but not too much, the ribs were falling off the bone. It was very cold inside the restaurant, it wasn’t really an issue but we were freezing.

I really don’t understand all the good reviews for this place. We travel all over the US eating at BBQ joints and this is one of the worst we’ve ever been to. The fried okra was okay, nice and crispy but needs to be tossed in some sort of seasoning once it comes out of the fryer, it’s totally bland. We ordered 1lb of pork shoulder, which came highly recommended, and asked for the spicy sauce. I don’t know if they put the wrong sauce on or just don’t know what spicy is, but it’s sooo sweet we can’t eat it. Definitely no spice to be found. It’s 3:30pm and this is the first thing we’ve eaten all day so are extremely hungry but this is so bad we definitely won’t be eating this. I absolutely hate wasting food but this is going straight in the bin. Oh and it comes in a styrofoam tub so you get all those harmful chemicals leaching into your hot food (which made us reluctant to even eat it in the first place).

Clean store and the foods are exceptional. I’ve been to too many BBQ restaurants here (not happy) and this by far is THE BEST!!!! Rib Tips are tender and the sides made me think of home (up NORTH). I will recommend to all who have ears. Today trying the one on Hickory. Don’t let me down lol .
