Apres in Lake Zurich is one of the few — if not the only — places in Lake County serving high-quality desserts and bakery with great variety.
Five stars across every category: food, atmosphere, price, and service.
If I could suggest one thing, it would be offering a more substantial breakfast at least once a week!

(pic flourless cake with raspberry and soft marshmallow – perfect sweetness)

Delicious coffee, unique pastry choices with the added benefit of learning French pronunciation in the process!!

Relaxed, yet chic hang out. Absolutely can kill an hour working or meeting up with friends.

Versatile, welcoming, with very friendly service

Oh – and stop next door for a lovely floral arrangement while you’re at it!

So I drove from West Chicago to visit my Aunt in Barrington, and she told me would you like some coffee, of course we love our coffee and she told me let’s go to this new place I just tried. So my Aunt Olga, friend from London, Conrad and myself all went to Apre’s Pastry & Bakery In Lake Zurich, so we went. It was definitely worth it. Coffee extremely fresh, pastries freshly made there and staff was absolutely wonderful and the atmosphereis relaxing and wonderful. I want to Thank Jessica and the all the staff there, I will definitely be returning and recommending. Thank You for the fresh, tasty pastries and great coffee.

This was our first time at Apres and it will not be our last. We went on a Saturday morning so we expected it to be busy and it was. The servers were friendly, courteous and working hard. I ordered a Black Sesame Latte which is made with black sesame paste and a sweetener. It pairs very well with the espresso. This is was one of the most unusual lattes I have ever had and it was so good with a warm nutty taste. My husband had an Americano and said it was very good. I ordered the Ham & Gruyere Croissant which was amazing and my husband had a butter croissant that he said was as good as any we have had in France. All of the baked good in the case looked wonderful. The overall atmosphere is bright, airy and welcoming. We were lucky to get the last two seats at the counter by the window. They have a lot of seating but it was just a busy day. I would say the downsides are that there is a bit of a wait to get coffee when it is busy, it’s a little crowded in the seating area and the prices are more that we normally spend for coffee and treats (but I think you get what you pay for). If you go, be sure to stop in at Lake Zurich Florist next door. They have lots of cute gift items.

The chocolate cherry dacquoise was packaged nicely and there was a wide variety of pastries/baked goods. I liked the canelé more than the chocolate frosted dacquoise.

Oh my Gods, I had no idea this place was here and I am SO GLAD I know about now! The place itself is very clean, well maintained, and the decor is adorable! It was *full* of customers when I dropped by, I had no idea it was so popular! The variety of treats they sell is eclectic and delicious – the ham and gruyere cheese croissant I got for breakfast was so flaky and delicious, I wish I’d bought two! The staff were all super friendly and welcoming, they gave off the vibe that they were happy to work there. Definitely a new local favorite for me, will make plans to come back and try out more of their selection!

Après Pastry & Bakery is a french inspired family owned business in the heart of Lake Zurich. I have been visiting for a couple months now and I had to write a 5 star review. The cinnamon rolls actually brought happiness tears to my eyes the first time I tried them! My go to is the apple croissant. I definitely recommend making the trip out to taste the handmade pastries. They also serve Heady Cup Coffee Roasters coffee. The servers and owners have always been kind and friendly. They have beautiful boxes for take away if you’d like to pick up some pastries as a gift.

What a delicious addition to our local community! We stopped in to try a few individual items since they recently opened. I was not disappointed! I knew a little about what to expect from other reviewers, but I always like to try it for myself.

I arrived around noon, unsure if there would be a lot of items left with only 3 hours to go. Upon entering the bakery, I immediately knew I was in for a treat. It smelled heavenly! Like a great bakery should smell. I was promptly greeted with smiles. I approached the display cases and saw they were very well stocked with pretty much everything. I quickly decided what to try that was offered that day. I got: a Chocolate Orange Tart, a Raspberry Croquette (sp?), 3 chocolate raspberry macarons, an herb & cheddar scone and a chocolate croissant.

It was a bit pricey, yes, more than maybe some other local bakeries, but the *quality* made it make sense! I thought prices were very fair, personally. It was luxurious..? My toddler also enjoyed some shared sweets while we stopped in and it was just a nice little treat! The raspberries in the croquette were soo very fresh! The cream was light and airy. The macarons were light and crisp, filled with a slightly-chilled chocolate mousse and a hidden raspberry fruit-filling inside! The chocolate orange tart was rich and decadent. Luxurious. The chocolate croissant-just like a Parisian bakery, they were flaky and buttery and fresh and I will probably buy those every week routinely, regardless of the rest of the items I might also like to try there.

Well done! I miss Paris all the time and this helped to bring a piece of that to me! I hope you plan to expand later and offer bread items and a coffee/espresso bar; they would be a worthy pairing to your current tasty sweeter offerings! Will most definitely be back!
