My meal was going well until a party was seated behind us and lowered the window shade completely, which blocked the natural light at our table. I politely asked if the shade could be kept halfway down instead of all the way. One of the individuals, a male, said the sun was in his face, which I acknowledged, but I still suggested a reasonable compromise.
Instead of responding respectfully, he called me out of my name and I retorted with a similar response. At that point, I told him that if the sun was that much of a problem, they could consider moving to another table. The waitress finally stepped in and suggested the party move.
What made the situation worse was the complete lack of management involvement. No one came over to check on the situation or ask if everything was okay. Later, the manager came through and lowered all of the shades, stating the sun was bothering someone. The way it was handled felt dismissive and disrespectful, especially after one of their guests had already spoken to us in such an inappropriate way.
A brief check-in from management or an effort to address the behavior would have gone a long way toward maintaining a respectful dining environment. Instead, it felt like the rude behavior from another guest was indirectly validated.
I typically don’t leave negative reviews because I understand that restaurants are busy environments and situations can happen. However, this was a situation where a simple moment of management awareness and professionalism could have prevented the experience from escalating. It may also be worth additional training for management on how to handle guest conflicts in a neutral way that does not appear biased, particularly toward the party that experienced the disrespectful behavior.
What started as a perfectly fine meal ultimately turned into a very negative and uncomfortable experience. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that future guests at Applebee’s in Edwardsville/Glen Carbon have a better experience.

The booth I was sitting in was worn out and uncomfortable. The carpets could use a good shampoo. The waiter was friendly and efficient.
I have dined here in the past and the food was tasty.
The restaurant is child friendly, wheelchair accessible and has plenty of free parking.

We had the 2 for $25 deal, our appetizer was a salad each, and we tried the O-M-Cheeze burgers. I chose no spicy mustard or bacon on my burger. They both came to the table sizzling hot. We were very pleased with our meal.
We had a club house grill with fries, And a quesadilla burger with fries.
The quesadilla burger and fries were so salty that I couldn’t eat it. I managed to force down some of the burger because I was starving. But had to quit. So I tried the fries, wow! The same for both orders of fries, extremely salty just lime the burger. My wife had the clubhouse grill she said it was salty but not like the burger or fries.
We left almost all the fries and a large portion of the burger.
I won’t be back at this location.
My Wife ordered a blue Hawaiian Long Island iced tea which should’ve got her feeling very good then she ordered a margarita. Between the two drinks, she did not get a buzz at all and she is a small woman which doesn’t drink much. She should have been feeling very good by this time so that was disappointing that the drinks were so weak.

Steak over cooked no flavor, chicken strips and onion rings- dark brown left in fryer to long, asked for no tomatoes on salad- it had tomatoes, larg climbs of lettuce in salad also.
