Naturally, I made a bold executive decision.
Skip dinner.
Open with the Triple Chocolate Meltdown.
While I’m elbow-deep in molten chocolate lava and vanilla ice cream, I look up and there they are. Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart. Just… staring at me from a giant wall poster like dessert guardians of the galaxy.
At first I felt seen. Understood. Supported even.
“They smoke. They get it,” I thought.
But they did not break eye contact.
I never ordered an entrée. Not once did I glance at a menu item containing protein. After conquering the chocolate cake, I doubled down with two brownie bites. Sugar high stacking on THC high like I was building a dessert skyscraper with no zoning permit.
By the second brownie I wasn’t sure if Snoop was judging my lack of ribs or nodding in slow approval like, “He committed to the bit.”
Martha looked like she was calculating my blood sugar in her head.
No regrets. 10 out of 10 experience. Would absolutely float back in and start with dessert again. Next time I might salute the poster and whisper, “I understand now.”
I ordered the shrimp Tex mex bowl which had quite a bit of kick (so be warned if you have MN levels of spice tolerance). I loved it and was pleasantly surprised by the spice.
We are visiting because my husband has surgery at Mayo but will definitely be back again if we find ourselves in the area.
We were seated next to a table with screaming children, which wasn’t ideal, but thankfully they weren’t there for very long. The music was also playing at a very loud level.
I ordered the ribeye steak cooked medium with sautéed onions and mushrooms, loaded mashed potatoes, and broccoli. The only thing that was edible on my plate was the broccoli. The steak was extremely bland, rubbery, and cooked well-done instead of medium. The loaded mashed potatoes were cold and had a strange, unpleasant taste.
I took one bite of the steak and almost spit it out. I even had my husband try a small piece to make sure I wasn’t overreacting, and he agreed it was awful.
Our server Brandon asked if something was wrong, and I politely explained that the steak was overcooked and that the potatoes didn’t taste right. I wasn’t trying to make a big deal out of it, but honestly I wish I had. Brandon took the plate and said he would speak to the manager.
For a $30 meal ($24 for the steak plus extra for the loaded potatoes and steak toppings), they only took $12 off the bill, even though I ate none of it except the broccoli. I had one bite of the potatoes and two very small bites of the steak.
Our total bill was over $100, and I ended up leaving hungry and getting food at a fast food restaurant down the street afterward.
They did offer us dessert, but we declined because I actually needed something to eat. I would have happily paid for the broccoli since that was good, but paying for the rest of the meal (even with the small discount) felt pretty unreasonable considering how inedible it was.
Thankfully my husband’s chicken and his grandma’s Alfredo were both good, and our child’s meal was fine.
Unfortunately, based on this experience, we won’t be returning.
We left Applebee’s & did go for ice cream.. Only to realize we must have forgot our credit card at the restaurant.. My husband called to see if it was there & by the time we had walked out to our car to go pick it up, the manager of Applebee’s was pulling into the parking lot & said “were you guys just at Applebee’s?? I think this is your credit card! Bruce told me you were coming here!”
It was literally the nicest thing ever.
This is the second time we’ve had AMAZING service when visiting that Applebee’s! 10/10 recommend going there. Especially if you’re trying to teach your kiddos how to behave when at a restaurant Because they’re so welcoming.
The whole crew here seemed united and took care of all guests including us very quick and with a smile.
Our server – I made a comment to my husband that I haven’t had that of an attentive server in a very long time.
Tomato basil soup was great.
Chicken was grilled great – still very juicy
My husband had the prime rib bites with fries and said it was great.
