Unpleasant experience..I arrived at Applebee’s to dine in. I was prepared to wait given it was Valentines Day. When I arrived my husband and I spoke with the hostess to confirm the wait time which was an hour. I agreed to add my name to the wait list. I noticed there was NO seating in the waiting area; therefore, I asked the hostess permission to sit at an empty table on the other side of the hostess stand because I could not stand for an hour. The hostess stated it would not be an issue. About 10 mins later a waitress noticed us at the table and came over to engage. I immediately explained to her that we were sitting there waiting to be called from the waitlist given I could not stand for an hour. I again asked if it would be an issue and she stated no. I also informed the waitress that I asked the hostess permission to sit there while my husband and I waited to be called from the wait list. The waitress stated given you have been given permission to sit here in my section and I am available to take your order and I will get menus. I again informed the waitress that I do not want to cause any issues as I am on the waiting the list and only sitting there to avoid standing for an hour. A few minutes later the manager approaches my husband and I in a VERY accusative and harsh tone and stated that we cannot just sit ourselves and the dining area is for customers that have been seated to dine in. We must return to the waiting area and sit there. I explained to him the interaction and conversation we had with the waitress and hostess and that we did not seat ourselves there was no other available seating near the hostess stand when we were added to the waitlist and I could not stand for an hour. I encouraged him to speak with his staff and if they did not follow protocol that was NOT my issue but his issue to correct with his team which he stated both he and the general manager did. If the manager spoke with his team members, then why did the he come across in an unprofessional, accusatory and harsh manner, if he was aware his staff did not follow proper protocol the correct thing would have been to say “It appears my staff did not follow proper protocol and I apologize for any inconvenience but to avoid any further misunderstanding or confusion now that there is available seating in the waiting area can you please return there and we hope to have you seated at your table soon”. Needless to say, after being treated rudely my husband and I left the restaurant and went elsewhere with NO waiting, better food and atmosphere.

My daughter and I waited 20 minutes to be seated in a less than half empty restaurant. Ten minutes into our wait another family came in and explained that they were in another Applebee’s on the east side of Cleveland and were never waited on so she came to Independence. The waiter saw that we were there first but proceeded to seat and serve her and her family first. We did not complain because we felt bad that her and her children had to wait so long at the other restaurant and then come to this Applebee’s in Independence and wait again. Our waiter was the only one serving and so he was trying to keep up. I really felt the Host could have helped out a bit he stayed in one area and didn’t do much from what I could see I asked for a substitute sweetener but never got it. I went to the bar and asked and she said she’d get someone to give it to me, but never did.I went to my car and got my own. When our food arrived there was no silverware so I asked the host for silverware and he said when they are done rolling them someone will bring it to you. The woman next to us had just been seated and was served immediately by the chef. I was in the Applebee’s in Middleburg Hts Ohio the day before and had excellent service. I won’t be going to the Applebee’s in Independence again. I used to rate Restaurants and Hotels for a service many years ago. I was very disappointed with my experience in Independence on Rockside Rd.

Independence location- Sunday night around 9pm. Customers were mostly couples and chill. It was primarily/almost entirely black patrons and the restaurant, as they should, was catering to the clientele. RNB music ect, and I like RNB, so I was happy. Better music than other times I was there. No pro or con and I felt safe by a nice couple at the bar, to place a to go order, rather than the lone guy at the bar.
No hostess, busy, understaffed. Sat myself at the bar finally to place a to go kids meal (sometimes I can’t eat a whole meal). Had to walk over to the well drink to get the bartenders attention to ask her if I could order a to go. Not her fault. She was cool. They were just slammed. She was holding it down and acknowledge when things were going to take a minute. Everyone’s food was coming out late around me. Everyone was pretty chill and just realized the bartender was busy and it was understaffed. At one point, who I assume was the manager (looked a little tired) came out and shouted “to go order”. I said I have a to go order, a kids burger. She set the food down in front of another patron and told me mine would be right out. It was already taking awhile, but I was being patient.
Got my order. I took my food to my car to eat. I just spent the day at a bachelorette party- sober but I drove a lot and was hungry. The burger was crazy. It was literally a half of a kids patty cut in 2 half’s on each side. Like, I know kids burgers are smaller but it wasn’t even a full kids patty. It was a half a kids patty, then cut into another half on each side. So, 1/4th of a kids patty on each side. Like, very clearly they cut it in half. So, that was disappointing and weird. I am not sure if they did that because I am an adult who ordered a kids meal or what. I still tipped well (prior to eating) and with tip my total was over $10, but that was not it. The mashed potatoes tasted sour or spoiled. I’ve been trying to figure out if their mashed potatoes are really always this bad or what. The girl in the couple got loaded mashed potatoes and she seemed to be enjoying them. I kind of feel like maybe the manager said something to the cooks about it being for me and they may have messed with my food? I didn’t know what I was going to get going in there, I just wasn’t that hungry. It would have been a sad burger to feed to a child and again, the potatoes tasted rotten.

What an absolute pleasure to talk to the manager of this Applebee’s. She has worked for Applebee’s for 20 years. What a jewel. Her business acumen is off the chart. Food was fabulous ( hot and came as we ordered) establishment was clean, waitress was very attentive, however as 1 female manager (retired) to another was truly gratifying. Thank you Jennifer for asking my opinions and truly listening. You’re one of the best and I am sure Applebee’s truly values you! Joy Bourke Pewee Valley, KY.

Don’t get me wrong I love Applebee’s food but I guess it’s just all depends on the location that you select because you can definitely tell the difference in the service. At this particular location I’m not sure if they were short staff but I feel like the service and the quality and the quantity of the food could have been much better.

I’m jus tryn to figure out if they just using “there’s a big party coming,” or “there’s a big catering order” excuses or the employees are calling in fake orders and fake reservations?????? Because the place was empty I counted at least 15 open tables………. Honestly how does the place do any numbers when you walk in and the host basically tells u to leave.
Crazy I watched him do it to like 3 people behind me while I was there waiting lmaooooo . Then the food took long, and it was cold. Thanks bud.

Applebees use to be really good. But the last two times have been truly heartbreaking. My pasta dish tastes like water and my dip and chips came like this. I’m not sure maybe I’m just overly sensitive about my food but this isn’t it. I’m highly disappointed.

Nesha was at her hostess stand when I entered the restaurant and ushered me to a table. She was smiling and jovial, and made me smile as I sit down. I was hoping she was my server.
But Jazz was my server, and I was even more delighted. Such a home style approach to welcoming customers and taking orders.
I just love this place. It was quiet and the service was amazing.
I was next-door trying to get a steak at Longhorn and it was such a joke and I was so insulted and was so overwhelmed with the noise and the apathy there. I left and came here.

The Murphunzios
Pros.
I absolutely loved the chicken/shrimp.
The Margarita I had was amazing.
Ample seating.
Waffle fries were delicious.
Kids were entertained and happy with there food and coloring.
Cons.
Wife’s bacon ranch chicken burger, had no ranch . Pickles were included even though she asked for them not to be. The lettuce was white and there was a miniscule amount.
The pop was gross. Flattish.
Despite the few issues with my wife’s Burger, the incredible waitress corrected the issues without any hesitation.
The rest of the meal was great and everyone enjoyed themselves.
