This place is cash only so be advised before you get there. You walk up and order and they bring it to your table. It’s good home style cooking. The place is very small and a little misleading. We kind of thought we were in the wrong place. Good thing there is a big sign that says Apollo cafe inside. It was very tasty and cost 20 bucks total for 2 people and it was a filling breakfast. Give it a try if you’re walking around PIT. We didn’t have to park since we walked from our hotel so I have no clue what parking would be like.

Cash only, counter service, family owned diner. As with all good cash-only places they do have an ATM for you cashless folks. We had breakfast. Get something with potatoes, their fried potatoes are the bomb. Pleasant folks, but they are there to take your order and have you on your way. Would love to go back for lunch if I am ever in town for lunch. I got the steak and eggs. The steak was on the tough side, but for the price it was all good.

I think it’s the best BLT in the city, stacked with crispy bacon, accompanied by perfectly browned potatoes- and very reasonably priced! Love a hole in the wall family run spot that’s survived downtown, wins everytime over chain restaurants.

We found the Apollo Cafe by accident while spending the weekend visiting my son who attends college in Pittsburgh. Before we left, we wanted a quick breakfast with him so myself, my wife and other kids met him for a quick bite. What a great breakfast, wonderful people and nice little spot to enjoy everything. We are so glad we stopped here, so enjoyable before we left him to go home and one of the best meals we’ve had. Thank you again for the hospitality!

My first trip to Pittsburgh and looking for breakfast I come upon this little cafe On Forbes Ave. A charming little nook open Monday-Friday and only for breakfast and lunch. They only accept cash so have some handy or use the ATM that is will be directly behind you when placing your order. The nicest, friendliest staff and great food. For the breakfast and lunch rush the have an upstairs area otherwise you are on the main floor. Prices are very reasonable as they cater to their many regulars at the courthouse and nearby businesses ( this means you won’t get shafted by tourist prices). I opted for the Western Omelette with potatoes, toast, and tea that cost $10.95 and worth every penny. Definitely making the stop on any return trips.

I had half a chicken salad sandwich and a cup of seafood bique, both were delicious.

I’m a breakfast cook in a VERY busy restaurant and I try to not be too critical of other spots but this was, without question the WORST breakfast I’ve had maybe ever! Sign in front says, “Voted best breakfast in the city”. Has almost 5 star reviews. Advertises Charcoal Grilled steak and eggs. The steak looked like a piece of gristle that had lost a hatchet fight, was coated in raw dry oregano flakes and was definitely NO WHERE NEAR a charcoal grill. I couldn’t even find my potatoes under all the spices they were soaked in. 1 bite was all I could swallow. The people were very nice, the eggs were ok and the toast wasn’t burnt. That’s all the good there was. NEVER AGAIN!

This was a nice little spot. Located on Forbes Avenue & just a few minutes walk away from the Hilton Garden Inn, Apollo’s hit the spot for my breakfast hunger needs. Best part? The PRICES are affordable. I ordered a western omelet with potatoes & bread, and the total was only around $9!
There are a concern, though. You have to get your own water if not buying a bottle. And if you want it, you scoop it yourself out of a community ice bucket. That may be a little unsanitary because you never know whose hands have been where.
The ambience of the restaurant is okay. It seems like it is really for working, on the go people. But the food is really good abd the people are nice.

Unassuming diner with food that generally exceeded expectations. Great home fries and pancakes. Primary negatives are that it’s cash-only (ATM available) and they only serve “hard” fried eggs.
