The food was average, but average food can be compensated with great service—unfortunately neither can be found at Apoala. Service was arrogant, pretentious, and unwelcoming, especially the two at reception. I was observing how they treated others and it was just shameful. The atmosphere felt off between staff and the bathrooms were in poor condition for a place that claims to be upscale. Definitely doesn’t live up to its reputation. I’d recommend spending your evening at one of the many other great spots around Santa Lucia Parque.

It is not what it used to be. Disappointed! Be aware that prices are around 15-20% higher of what menu here in Google. Very tiny portion. I was here and got the Octupus and Cayo Ceviche. They did not include the local verdolaga which is clearly stated in the ingredients. They did not make it up when I claimed.

While the food we had was really good, they didn’t have half the menu (aka everything we originally wanted to order). This was quite disappointing as you can imagine. The service was friendly and the inside of the restaurant, which only has a couple of tables, was quite nice. If you don’t like street vendors interrupting your dinner, make sure to make a reservation for inside! I don’t think this is a must visit spot in Merida unfortunately.

This is the best meal we had in Merida. The food was delicious, each dish was rich with flavor and very fulfilling. I was surprised to eat every bite from my plate but it was so good, I just could not stop eating. I enjoyed the ensalada Verde most as there was no lettuce in sight but rather a flavorful blend of green vegetables that worked amazingly on the palette. The braised beef is also very good, loved the flavor profile.
The service was good and they have a wide selection of dishes. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend it.

We had dinner here last night. It is located outside in Parque de Santa Lucia. It was a little warm to sit outside but the breeze made it bearable. The street vendors do go table by table trying to sell things so if the bothers you, there are a couple of tables inside as well.
The appetizers were wonderful, and the fish of the day with gnocchi, was fantastic!

Unbelievably overrated.
I ordered the flautas. The pork inside was almost as tough as jerky, and the tortillas were so stale it was clear these had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours.
My friend got the salad with seared ahi. The ahi was awful, on a bed of very nice lettuce with a great dressing, but hardly worth the price.
My other friend got another salad that was mostly boiled potatoes and a smattering of lettuces with no noticeable flavor, also something like 250 pesos.
When I paid the check with the server holding the terminal, I hit the 10% tip button and the server ignored my “gracias” and walked off with a sneer. I guess he wanted more.
The experience left an awful taste in our mouths — figuratively and a bit literally.

What has happened to Apoala? This is our third time to Mérida and on the previous two trips this was consistently a best meal. We even almost used Apoala as the caterer for our wedding because it was so good. Coming back two years later, I was hesitant seeing the ratings have dropped so much and just as mentioned when we sat down they told us essentially half of the menu was unavailable which included everything we wanted to order. We didn’t stay and went across the street to Nol which was great. Hoping this is just a passing phase.

The food was excellent. Complementary thin tortillas were fun and tasty, grilled octopus tacos were larger than expected and cooked well. Local sea bass was flavored nicely.
We had a large meal and drinks 3 hours ago so weren’t hungry but decided to try this place anyway given it’s our last night. It feels that the waiter was disappointed that we didn’t order more so the service was lukewarm but polite in general.
This appears to be an upscale restaurant and they do expect at least 15% tip.

Restaurant is positioned in a very nice square with some tables inside and some on the Square itself. On the menu there are a lot of standard Mexican dishes. Everything was well prepared. The service was good but nothing was memorable in this place. I would recommend it for a pleasant experience, especially if you’re someone that wants to have something predictable and safe.

Fabulous food. Service was good not great. Drinks were very good. Definitely recommended. We had the fried zucchini flowers, the braised short rib for appetizer. Then we had the fish of the day and the sea bass. Both were very tasty. The bean gravy on the sea bass was rather salty so I’d take it on the side instead of them pouring it over the dish.
