Dinner was so delicious last night that we decided to return again today for lunch. Always outstanding year after year… this is the first place we visit when we return to New Jersey!

Ordered chicken chow mein for delivery. To my understanding and experience (and from many Google searches), chow mein is stir-fried noodles with vegetables. What arrived was literally just boiled chicken in an unidentified sauce with cabbage and onions…. No noodles in sight. I called the restaurant to see if my order got switched with someone else’s or something. Whoever answered tried to tell me that chow mein doesn’t have noodles in it. Literally what? I was in Chinatown last week and had chow mein and was served noodles. Incredibly annoying and disappointing.

A very good and very reliable option for Chinese. (We’ve eaten there and ordered takeout several times, but admittedly have never ordered from the Japanese menu.). Probably the best option in the area… Very good food. Not too salty or oily like some Chinese takeout can be. If you eat at the restaurant, instead of takeout, remember it is BYOB.

I’ve had two nice visits to Aoyama. They’re right up the road from me, so the convenience definitely plays a role in my rating. The sushi is of good quality. On my second visit I sat at the bar and the itamae working all the sushi prep magic was very attentive asking how everything was. The atmosphere is nice as well with clean surroundings and a non-cluttered setup.

The inside of the establishment is very neat and organized, the staff is also very friendly, however the food is subpar at best. The Szechuan dumplings were absolutely inedible, the double sautéed pork was fine in flavor but not spicy as it was advertised and the pork seemed more like chicken, my friend got the general Taos chicken and did not enjoy it he described it as “one big clump of fried dough”. The best part of the meal was the sprite. The food came out very quickly and left me wondering how you can double sauté pork and make it taste like chicken that quickly. It was floppy and very pale. You could taste the frying oil on the chicken and it very clearly needed to be changed. The dumplings were slimy, doughy, incredibly oily, and left me feeling uncomfortable. Will not be going back.

Have been dining here for 12 years (except for one year they were closed because of fire). Always excellent Japanese and Chinese food. Hamachi Kama is the best! And takeout is a great option during Covid.

A little pricey, but has good sushi. Sashimi lunch special bento box is good. Includes Miso soup, california roll, goyoza, rice, and salad. $18. $26 by the time you are done with tax and tip.

I used to love going to Aoyama’s. However, the last three times we ordered there, their food tested bland and didn’t have the ingredients described on the Menu, Japanese rolls were not good as well as years past.
