We visited Anna Maria’s after hearing recommendations for fresh Southern Gulf seafood, and the seafood delivered.

We were greeted by classic nautical-themed décor, which added a bit of coastal charm. For starters, we ordered the onion straws, and they were light, crispy, and not overly greasy.

My mom ordered the fish and chips, which came out massive, easily enough for two people. The batter was crisp and golden, and the fish was flaky inside.

I ordered the churrasco skirt steak, which unfortunately missed the mark. It lacked the bold flavor I typically associate with skirt steak, where’s the marbled fat? However, the cilantro rice was great and paired well with the steak, and the greens were bright and fresh.

My husband went with the Admiral’s Platter. The grouper was exactly what he’d been craving, well-cooked and flavorful. The scallops were tender and nicely seared, which we appreciated since scallops can often be overdone and rubbery.

Anna Maria Oyster Bar in UTC continues to impress. The food was excellent and remarkably consistent for a restaurant with multiple locations. I had the mahi mahi with chimichurri, served with rice and vegetables, and it was perfectly prepared. The fish was fresh and cooked just right, and the chimichurri added a bright, balanced flavor without overpowering it. Even the steamed broccoli was thoughtfully prepared and seasoned well, which says a lot about the attention to detail in the kitchen.

Luke was the most attentive server I’ve had in a long time.

Everyone at our table was happy with their meals, and I have yet to have a bad experience there. It is reliable, high quality, and clearly well managed.

Let me start by saying that we typically frequent the location in Ellenton and have had really great food and service in the past. It is understandable that everyone makes mistakes but it’s how we respond to those mistakes that matter the most. Today, at the UTC location, my spouse and I ordered the baked oysters on half shell, gumbo and fish basket for lunch. Oysters were delicious and soup was tasty however with my first bite I discovered what appeared to be a piece of sponge, yes you understood me correctly, a piece of sponge about the size of a nickel. (Who knows what this sponge was used on before landing in the gumbo and eventually in my mouth) I certainly don’t want myself or anyone else getting sick consuming cleaning supplies. I informed the waitress who in turn notified the manager (Noah) who came to the table and asked if we wanted to order something else. No apology. Just took the alleged sponge to the back. (Take a look at the pic and decide for yourself) We declined to eat the fish platter that was also delivered to the table. The beverage, oysters and soup were comp’d by the waitress (but not with the nicest attitude). If anyone happened to consume the gumbo at this establishment on Friday, Sept 12 around lunch time and experienced any stomach issues – this may be why. Once again, everyone makes mistakes but how one addresses them is most important. We will not be back.

A quick lunch. Attentive service. Poke bowl and a dozen raw (Louisiana Gulf oysters). The beer was cold and the oyster shells are recycled for marine reef building. Lots of seating at the bar. We missed the book drive (for a free dessert) they had in August, but there is a little lending library in the front that you can donate to.

Ate here today and also a little over a year ago while on vacation in FL which I do about once a year. Food was really good and importantly fairly priced. It was less money than many other seafood place I have visited in the last few years when I visit FL but about the same quality. The cocktailI ordered from the bar was very good as well (spicy pomegranate margarita). Red snapper was the catch of the day and our party ordered it 3 ways at our table and each was very good but one said thiers was a bit ivercooked (but still good). Oysters both standard raw and raw with pickled onion and chimichurri were good with strong horseradish and good cocktail sauce served with the traditional oysters raw. I will say the service was lacking with food taking quite a long time to get despite them below capacity (no wait line and open tables). Both the manager and waiter apologized and said the kitchen was working on a. large party before us, but didn’t offer anything. It was OK with us as we had the oysters, kids got their meals, and the adults sipped cocktails and gabbed while waiting 45 minutes for food. Hopefully the kitchen was short or the large party was a lot of work but overall I’d return and appreciate they offer a better value without compromising on food quality or portion compared to a few of the other restaurants I visit while in town, even if those others are a little more boutique or offer water view.

The tuna bowl at Anna Maria Oyster Bar was absolutely delicious! Fresh ingredients, great flavor, and perfectly balanced. The tuna was super fresh, and the avocado and seaweed salad tied it all together. Great service and atmosphere too — can’t wait to go back!

We stopped by for my birthday dinner. Ordered sprouts that said spicy Thai aioli. Zero flavor, after I personally added salt and pepper they were edible. I had the fish and chips, and she had the chicken Alfredo. Fish was super greasy, thin breading, and not fresh. Her pasta was way over cooked, like it had been prepared hours or days before. Her Alfredo sauce had a strong clammy watery flavor. And the garlic bread was untoasted. When we told the waiter he said “want us to make another?” No. I don’t. It tastes off. “Ok” he said and walked away. He did comp the Alfredo at the end when he realized she had barely eaten. It’s the slow season in Sarasota and a fairly large establishment. Gonna chalk this one up to limited staff, cutting back on food cost(quality). Maybe try again when it’s busy.

Good food and fantastic service. Came here with some friends from out of state because they wanted oysters. They really enjoyed the oysters. The margarita flight was delicious. Calamari was good! Lobster bisque could have had more lobster pieces. We also got the baked fish dip and crab stack to start and enjoyed both, I preferred the baked fish dip but again both were great. For entrees we got fish and chips, poke bowl, and shrimp/scallop combo. Everyone enjoyed their meal!

Went to AMOB utc on 3/9/2026
We had the Danish pork spare ribs they were dry and not vary moist at all vary disappointing for being a restaurant favorite on the menu. Also the red bliss potatoes are boiled with no seasoning whatsoever, also vary disappointing.
The only good thing was the happy hour margarita that we had. Would definitely find somewhere else to eat locally in sarasota other then this place.

What a gem of a find! I really wanted some coastal oysters, and this place not only had an excellent price of about $28 for the mixed dozen, but also had some excellent happy hour cocktails. I had 2 $4 house margaritas, which were delicious. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant had a great upbeat atmosphere. I highly recommend the oysters that have bacon on them. Never would’ve thought to try that otherwise!
