Ankeny Diner is a reproduction of a diner attached to the Wyndham hotel. The interior has a lot of chrome, neon, and Naugahyde that gives it a movie diner feel. It was very clean and shiny. The menu had standard comfort food: burgers, salads, cold and hot sandwiches, and a lot of desserts. I enjoyed the chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. My wife had a veggie burger, which was satisfying, although not as yummy as some restaurants.

First time here, is challenging to get in the place. Part of a hotel addition and signs are not helpful.
Tried the taco salad, not bad. Veggies are fresh and crispy. Bowl/shell light and flaky. Used chili for the taco part. Bland but nothing Tabasco doesn’t help
Fish dinner was average and plate held all the excess grease just fine.
Server is amazing and made the meal experience better.
Pool + chlorine overpowered the night. Probably our last visit.

My wife and I had breakfast at the Ankeny Diner this morning, and it was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we walked in, the friendly staff made us feel welcome. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a classic diner charm that makes you feel right at home.
What stood out the most was the excellent service – the staff was attentive without being overbearing, and it’s clear they genuinely care about their customers. If you’re looking for a great breakfast spot in Ankeny, this is the place to go. We’ll definitely be back!

Nice kind of hidddn gem in Ankeny. Attached to hotel by the highway. Good menu selection for all meals. Breakfast is delicious , skillets are hearty and filling. Have steaks and salmon on the menu! Interior is unique , and has a small bar as well Shakes and malts ! One of the better breakfast spots in Ankeny for sure!

First time going to ankeny Diner. The food was excellent the service was outstanding the atmosphere feels like you’re back in the 1950s restaurant. Would definitely recommend if you’re ever in the ink and need to stop by and try their food there’s more than enough on the food plates to fill your appetite

We were in the neighborhood and stopped in for some food. It was noon on Saturday and they weren’t busy at all. We were seated immediately and given time to look over the menu. The inside is kind of dark and dreary for a diner, especially during the day. Otherwise, the mirrors and diner decor was fine. It was lunch time but we were both still in the mood for breakfast food so we ordered accordingly. The diced potatoes on my breakfast plate were good and seasoned well, but I ordered sunny-side eggs and got over-medium. The hash browns on my husband’s plate were pretty soggy. The rest of his omelette was decent. Would be up for trying lunch or dinner here.

Saturday morning around 1030 for breakfast. No wait. Super cool vintage diner. Lots of seating including tables, booths, milkshake bar. Nice and clean. It is located inside of a hotel sort of. Plenty of parking, accessible space.
We shared the special which was biscuits and gravy topped with country fried steak, more gravy, and an egg. Delicious!!! The gravy had actual meat and flavor, not just pepper and flour. Also had some fruit and hashbrowns which were good, too.
It only took a few minutes for our food to come out. Server attentive with refills and checking in.
Total was just under $30 for a BIG breakfast. Had coffee and a pop with our meal.

This is a really cute place and the staff does a great job every time I’ve been here. The food is yummy and everything I’ve tried has come to me correct and in a reasonable time-frame for this style of restaurant. It can get busy, but they have lots of tables, be patient, the food is great. I had the soup of the day today, a chicken and wild rice, it was AMAZING. They’re doing a great job and deserve full stars from me for consistently good service and food. Thank you!

Being a night shift worker, it’s hard to find a place at 6:30 in the morning to get a beer and a fresh burger. After contacting the owner and finding out when they open, I am pleased to say i finally an amazing bar and diner in Ankeny opened in the morning for people who work nights. Thank you for the great food and drinks.

We had an excellent experience, got seated fast, waitress was friendly and efficient and the good was yummy. I had blackened salmon and a side salad with French. The salmon was delish and so was the salad best French dressing I’ve tasted, the waitress told us that they make most of their dressings. Breakfast is served all day so my grand daughter got cinnamon French toast and said it was yummy. My husband got a cheeseburger and onion rings and it was great too. Will definitely go back.
