Social Profile:

Anjappar’s humble beginnings started in Chennai more than 50 years ago offering the South Indians some typical Chettinad food. As time passed, Anjappar became synonyms for Chettinad Cuisine. The Peoples demand has led us to take this experience overseas.

South Indian fare, including dosas & curry, is the focus of this warmly decorated restaurant.

This is the first time I couldn’t finish my food because the taste was so bad. It was totally unworthy of $30. It used to be very good, so I brought my family, but this time it was not good at all. The mutton was so tough I couldn’t even break it.l

The food was mid. Some were good but some were really bad. The coating for any 65 appetizers they apparently put on colors for now reasons and no taste in the coating. Need to improve alot. Lastly, the mouth freshener at the last was really really bad, it totally made my mood off.

A Disappointing Study in Imbalance and Poor Execution

This meal was a masterclass in missed fundamentals, beginning with the masala dosa (4/10)—a dish whose batter betrayed excessive rice content, resulting in a thick, leaden crepe that utterly lacked the signature crisp-tender texture that defines proper dosa. The accompanying coconut chutney offered no redemption, arriving in an unacceptably watery state that suggested either careless preparation or dangerous dilution of what should be a creamy, substantial condiment. The lamb chettinad (2/10) proved even more catastrophic: when I requested spicy, I anticipated heat with nuance, but instead received an avalanche of raw masala that bulldozed any hope of balanced flavor, while simultaneously—and bafflingly—the kitchen neglected to add adequate salt, leaving the dish simultaneously over-seasoned and under-seasoned. Most troubling was the distinct impression that the lamb itself was far from fresh, carrying that telltale flatness and questionable aroma that signals extended refrigeration or reheating—a cardinal sin in any kitchen claiming to serve authentic regional Indian cuisine.

Had a great experience at Anjappar. While it’s known for South Indian food, I was pleasantly surprised by how good their North Indian options were as well. The kadhai paneer was amazing—rich, flavorful, and well cooked. The rasam was excellent and very comforting. The masala dosa was average to decent. Overall, a solid place with good food and consistent quality. Would definitely visit again.

First visit to Anjapar. Somehow the feeling was this restaurant caters to more non-vegetarian food. That is incorrect, they do have reasonable vegetarian options atleast in snack options which was my focus.

I liked the restaurant ambiance, felt spacious. Our server Vijay was fantastic, very friendly, respectful and also good in recommending options and checking in on the quality of food.

We ordered different kinds of dosas, Indian style noodles w/veggies, gobi manchurian, malabar roti, filter coffee.

Having so many options were great. Dosas were made really well. The noodles and gobi manchurian were more oily than what we would have liked and low on the salt. We had to add salt to our taste.

Few recommendations to the management:
1. The restaurant board could do better by indicating they serve vegetarian dishes too. They have a white board that talked about lot of non-veg dishes, I almost would have not entered.
2. No one at the reception so felt a little awkward going in. Did not know where to wait.
3. Reduce oil. Some of the items really oily.

I like Anjappar menu but thinking of going to Anjappar often is a question mark is because looking at the chicken color makes me to think how much Red 40 color they have used in chicken 65 and their tandoori chicken. No need to use that much color to make it vibrant chicken. Running a restaurant is difficult but also please keep in mind the customers health and kids who are coming to your restaurant. The artificial colors used in the recipes are unnecessary health hazard for the people. Not only Anjappar, almost all Indian restaurants should be aware of limiting the Red 40 food colors in their chicken and tandoori dishes.

The weekend buffet is very good but the seating is horrible. No space for moving around.

Food was great.. but service was too slow..! We tried chettinad chicken curry , chilli garlic naan and lamb biryani.. ! All of them taste amazing mainly the Chettinad curry .. had right amounts of spice and flavor to it .. the only downside was we had to wait for almost 30 mins before the food was served.. upon checking with the waiter, he simply responded saying since we didn’t order an appetizer and it’s only main course, it will take atleast 25 mins ..otherwise very good experience..!

Anjappar Chettinad Restaurant in Redmond is a great spot for authentic South Indian flavors.
The dosa was perfectly crispy and served with flavorful sambar and chutneys.
The Chicken Chettinad stood out with its rich spices and true Tamil-style taste.
Portion sizes are generous and the food feels fresh and well-prepared.
Service is friendly and attentive, making the visit comfortable.
Overall, a must-visit for anyone craving real Tamil cuisine in the area. ✨
