The experience felt genuinely Indian in the best way…warm, welcoming service, the option to eat with your hands, and even a hand-washing station, which added to the authenticity. The owner was especially sweet and made us feel right at home.
I’m from the Boston area, and this was a standout meal for me. I would absolutely come back again the next time I’m in San Diego.
The forest service was really quick and they delivered the food piping hot much faster than we expected.
Food was also quiet, flavorful and the good amount of spicy as well.
Some items were fairly oily but I guess that’s just how these things are made so there’s no going around it.
Really like the variety of dishes they had and we got to try a lot of new South Indian options that we had never heard of before.
Taking off major points here because of the dessert. We ordered the falooda ( actually wanted some specialty item they had but they said they were sold out of that). When we asked for the Falooda they said they had it and it actually took over 30 minutes to bring it out!! We kept asking for it and they said they were preparing it and what not, but we believe that this item was actually frozen and they were now waiting for it to defrost.
The only reason I see this is because when they did bring it to the table, IT was actually semi-frozen and definitely not worth the weight of almost 30 minutes.
As for the vibe of the place, it was like your typical Indian restaurant. Not super aesthetic or anything
We were in the back room and it felt a little enclosed but I guess there was no way to avoid that. Clearly a popular place though because by the time we left it was very packed in the front side.
Thank you for a great meal and service that everyone in the family truly enjoyed. Hoping they maintain this standard, as we’d happily choose to dine in more often rather than just rely on takeout.
The Chettinad chicken was exactly what I hoped for: spicy, flavorful, and authentically prepared. However, the portion was smaller than I expected — only two pieces of chicken were included, which felt a bit light for a dinner entrée, especially since I didn’t order any sides or appetizers.
Overall, the flavors were solid and true to the cuisine, but I think the experience (especially the appam) would be much better dining in rather than ordering for delivery. I’d likely try the restaurant in person next time for the full experience.
As for the food, the sauce was a bit on the salty side, and the cheese naan didn’t have as much cheese as I was expecting. The flavors were decent overall, but there’s definitely room for improvement in both the service and the dishes. I’d rate my experience around 3 stars — not bad, but with a few small adjustments, it could easily be a 5-star visit.
The ambience and the authenticity of the food only added to the experience.
We’ll definitely be coming back again and again.
We’ve been to Anjappar locations in Artesia and Tustin, but the San Diego branch truly stands out as the best.
From the flavor to the freshness, everything exceeded our expectations.
From the aromatic curries to the flavorful biryanis and perfectly cooked starters, everything feels authentic and freshly prepared. The spice levels are just right, and you can really taste the depth of Chettinad masala in every bite.
If you’re craving real Indian food—especially authentic Chettinad cuisine—this is a must-recommended restaurant in San Diego. Definitely one of the best spots for Indian food in the area!
