Wonderful spot. Brunch menu was creative and food was solid. My poached egg was cooked perfectly – well done.
The coffee game here is strong. You can tell these folks know their stuff.
Staff was extremely friendly and atmosphere was nice. Definitely a top spot in BIS.

What a sweet place right downtown. I was searching for a legit coffee shop with great craft coffee and this is THE place. I normally get black coffee. I’ll get a pourover if I have to but a true coffee shop will have drip that it’s proud of. This place meets the challenge. In addition, a wide variety of baked goods, house made hot sandwiches, lovely counter service and overall nice vibe.

They were not a lot of options for brunch in the area, but we took a look at this menu and decide to give it a try on the main street here in Bismarck. The options were slightly limited, but the food was excellent! Presentation was not left out, and we were all in awe!
I ordered the mushroom scramble, and the eggs were cooked beautifully with a plethora of grilled mushrooms within the scramble. The salad would shared. The other half of the plate was delicious with the vinaigrette dressing and amazingly delicious tomato topping. Try the corn molasses toast, you won’t regret it!
(sorry, I don’t have a picture of the food )
The other two ordered the chorizo scramble which he said, reminded him of Mexico and the hash which was devoured so completely and quickly we barely saw the plate…

I was in the mood for Italian and not sure where to go while in town for work. I went to BisMan Eats online and searched the group. Many threads suggested Anima Cucina so my husband and I decided to try it out after looking at the menu online versus our other go to restaurants we typically stop at while in town. We are so glad we tried it out as it’s our new favorite!
Our server was so nice and helped point out some popular entrees while also taking into consideration what we might be hungry for. I could have ordered two garlic breads as it was that good! Don’t even get me started on the house made scratch pasta – delicious. No where in town compares! We also got the tiramisu which was the perfect little amount to share.
We appreciated the overall vibe of the restaurant and the fact that we weren’t made to feel rushed out after dining, but also the service was always attentive without being overly interruptive. Please go check it out if you’ve drive by or never gone in!
I can’t wait to stop back and bring others with!

Great coffee and delicious food in a place you may not expect it, but that’s North Dakota for you! Jason is especially welcoming to newcomers to the Peace Garden State and Northern Plains National Heritage Area. Don’t miss it when in downtown Bismarck!

If you look at my reviews you can see that I have given 5 stars to fast food restaurants and I am very honest with each review. The place was very clean and they served me quickly. The menu says two prices: a “normal” dish and a “large” dish. My husband asked what the difference was between the two, but there wasn’t much information about it. My husband’s regular dish cost $22 and only came with five cannelloni and a small piece of lobster on top, but the lobster tasted watery. The spaghetti carbonara tasted good but my daughter got upset stomach. The meatballs tasted good but the sauce tasted like tin. I can say that the coffee is the best I’ve had in Bismarck but it all depends on whether you like it or not. whether you like it strong or mild (the coffee is strong) ❗anyway all the portions are extremely small we spent 85 dollars for four dishes and two drinks and a small coffee.❗

Went for brunch. First time, expecting classy atmosphere from reviews. Not even good atmosphere for a coffee shop, just a counter and booths – ive seen better setups in delis. Overpriced food, which is to be expected in a coffee shop – but it wasnt good. Got served the driest chicken sandwich I’ve ever had, some tomato soup that sucked, and an $8 fruit salad that they screwed up and added to my order, which consisted of maybe 10 cantaloupe balls and 2 halved grapes. My company’s food was equally dumb. A “toast flight” with one piece of toast lazily cut in half – not even into points, and a few different things to put on the solitary piece of toast. How cheap. Wheat bread (the only kind available as they were out of all other options). Order taken and messed up by some poor kid in training or something (14-15yrs old maybe) Self serve water, silverware, napkins, to-go containers. For a $60 lunch, I would have expected noticably better. For me its a one and done. Disappointing in almost every aspect.

Great healthy choice for lunch. Sandwiches and bowls were incredibly fresh and flavorful. Everything down to bread was home made and delicious.
Sadly all this was ruined by the rudest interaction we’ve had in years with a manager. We had our infant grandson sleeping in a car carrier in the booth, so quite crowded.
She stopped by the table after food arrived. Expected a how is everything, instead, ‘you’ll have to move that chair, it’s going to be in the way for our dinner service’. Mind you it was 3:15pm and we’d have been long gone. Again grandson made it impossible to fit.
She returned throwing all our coats at us. ‘you cant put these at an empty table’. the place was empty. Temps in the single digits with NO COAT RACK in the place.
Absolutely ruined what could have been a nice albeit expensive dining experience. They take payment upfront otherwise we’d have left. So upsetting, we took all to go.
Predict they will be out of business

Anima Cucina is such a cute spot in Bismarck. I was greeted right away and seated promptly, and the service throughout the meal was warm, friendly, and attentive. For a small restaurant, they also have an impressive wine selection.
We started with the garlic bread, hot olives, and meatballs — all of which were flavorful, balanced, and absolutely delicious. For entrées, our table had the breaded walleye, the Bolognese pasta, and the Porchetta. The walleye and Bolognese were outstanding, but unfortunately the Porchetta was a big letdown. The skin was chewy rather than crisp, with a thick layer of unrendered fat beneath it, and most concerning, it still had visible pig hair. I was expecting the classic combination of crackling skin, melting fat, and tender pork, but instead it was oddly undercooked on the outside, dry inside, and after biting into hair, I really lost my appetite for it.
We finished with tiramisu and a torte, and both desserts were excellent — a strong way to end the meal.
Overall, Anima Cucina has a lot going for it: charming atmosphere, friendly staff, great starters, and standout entrées (other than the Porchetta). I’d happily return for the appetizers, pasta, fish, and desserts, but I’d avoid the Porchetta based on my experience.
