The owners’ inspiration, flavor, attitude, and even the name Angry Owl come from decades of experiences spent on a remote West Texas ranch. As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas – and that is true of the bold tastes found on the menu at the Angry Owl. Our grilled entrees are seasoned with the same blend of spices used on the open mesquite grills on the ranch. We’ve added a unique southwest twist on many traditional food favorites.

Colorful Southwestern eatery offering mesquite-spiced grills, and potent cocktails.

If you’re looking for a true taste of the Sun City, you need to get to Angry Owl on Mesa. This place captures that authentic El Paso home-style flavor that’s so hard to find anywhere else. Every single dish they put out has that perfect balance of spice and heat—it’s bold and flavorful without being overwhelming.
My favorites unique to this restaurant…
Hatch Green Chile Potato Chowder: Absolutely awesome. It’s creamy, cheesy, comforting, and has that signature Hatch kick that makes it a local masterpiece.
Shrimp Tacos: Wow! The seasoning is spot on, and the shrimp are cooked to perfection just the right of amount of toppings and of course angry heat that’s a perfect balance of flavor. Blackened Salmon on Spicy Rice, it all comes together awesome. Calabacitas: Again…Wow! Taste just like my momma’s! Honestly, you can’t get any more “El Paso” than this. It tastes just like home. Beyond the food, the beer is always ice-cold, which is exactly what you need in West Texas. Plus, they have great specials running every single day, making it an easy choice for a casual lunch or a night out.
Bottom line: Add Angry Owl to your “must-do” list. It’s a local gem that truly understands our city’s flavor.

We go here at least once a week and kind of consider it our spot and here’s why.I work for a commercial glass company so I bust my ass every day and when we go out to eat our once a week I want to go somewhere where the food is good the beer is better and the atmosphere isn’t that corporate bs and super busy environment that you k ow who provides. I want genuine and affordable. That’s the angry owl. Shout out to Joma he’ll take good care of you but so will any staff. Customers for life …..yeah I said it. If you don’t go you’re missing out.

I got the Green Chile Philly. OMG what a sandwich! It was a Philly, French dip with green chile. What could go wrong with that? The meat was tender and juicy. Au jus was amazing .

First time trying it and the hangover burger had everything plus some extras. It was so good do not eat it if your heart is hurting because it will finish you off haha. Totally worth it though.

Had the lunch trio with the tortilla chicken soup, bacon burger and beer battered fries.
The soup was excellent, warm and flavorful with a hint of spice. Just right.
The bacon burger was good, big and with a lot of veggies.
The fries were crispy and well seasoned.
Our server was quick with the beverage refills and checked in on us to see if the food was to our liking.

It was a little slow for a football Sunday. Happy Hour all day. Cold beer, trash can nachos were fire. We guacamole burger and the Juarez Burger. Both were amazing but more kudos to the Juarez Burger. Prices were not bad counting for inflation but this isn’t were you want to be to save a buck. We spent about $100 total for two people. Will recommend and will be back the staff was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxed.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to be introduced to The Angry Owl while we were visiting friends in El Paso, and we had a GREAT meal!
The Owl boasts an unusual menu, with lots of fabulous Mexican food offerings such as Calabacitas and Hatch green chili potato chowder. The dishes are traditional or fusion-inspired Mexican cuisine (like the Sun City salmon on cilantro-lime rice and topped with Pico de Gallo). The Albondigas soup was SO tasty, and the Calabacitas were AMAZING! Our friends had chicken-fried steak over mashed potatoes (which was served as a generous portion and had yummy breading) and the Southwest Chicken Caesar Salad (which was IMMENSE).
Cooper was our server and was fabulous! They were very friendly and efficient; there was a little wait for our food to arrive (maybe there were less kitchen staff due to the holiday), but our orders were taken quickly and Cooper checked back frequently to ensure we were enjoying our meals. They guided those of us new to the restaurant through the menu and was patient with all my questions (especially regarding the Calabacitas).
The restaurant is in an open, roomy space with plenty of seating, yet it felt intimate enough for private conversations.
We’ll definitely be back to The Angry Owl on our next visit to El Paso!
