We stopped in for a light meal and wine. The atmosphere is beautiful and inviting with soft lighting and a cozy vibe to the dining area. Chairs were comfortable and tables the perfect size. We ordered appetizers to include hot crab dip for the 2 of us and 2 bowls of lobster bisque. A basket of delicious rolls were brought to the table for our meal. The food was wonderful, with the bisque being one of the best I’ve had. Crab dip was also delicious and had wonderful asiago toasted bread to accompany the hot dip. Our host and server were friendly, attentive, and kind without being intrusive. This was a wonderful dining experience and I hope to return. Prices were fair for the quality of food. It was just an overall good experience.

I have never done a review of a restaurant before because me and my wife owned on in Pittsburgh for approximately 20 years. And I found some reviews done on my restaurant graded me on stupid things that I had no control of for example a bad date. So I was very appreciative of the young waitress we had on Thursday evening the 19th of February, we had a 6 o’clock reservation with my family from the st. Albans area. They were late getting there, but the waitress was very nice and understanding. Who ever was doing the cooking in the back did a excellent job. Our food arrived hot and delicious. I had the crab stuffed whitefish which was prepared very well and of good quality.. everyone raved about the food how good it was, and the presentation. But what I could not believe was the price of the meals were beyond reasonable. You would have paid a lot more for that quality in Pittsburgh. Me and the wife scratched our heads why the place wasn’t busier. But being in the business there could be many reasons. But thanks guys for a great meal, can’t wait to go back next time I’m down. We visited Angela’s on the River at 6pm on a Wednesday to celebrate our 8th anniversary (our first time!). A gentleman greeted us at the door, offered thoughtful service, and seated us in a bright room with a wonderful view of the Coal River—a highlight of the night. Dress code seems relaxed; my casual attire was perfectly acceptable. Parking is across the street, but there’s a spot to drop off your hot date (or your mom) first.

The special was advertised as halibut and flounder—baked or fried. I wanted baked halibut blackened and baked shrimp blackened, and she wanted fried flounder with fried shrimp. Our waitress was prompt with drinks, but it took longer than expected to take our order. Unfortunately, the kitchen could only prepare fried halibut and baked flounder, and they weren’t able to do any blackening, so we had to settle. The fried halibut was the tastier option, while the flounder, though dense and meaty, lacked seasoning and wasn’t blackened as requested.

We were disappointed by the portion of just two small rolls, but they were tasty (and they did give us 2 more). The scalloped potatoes were chunky in cheese sauce—not like any scalloped potatoes I’ve seen before—and just okay. Sides like Italian green beans were also just okay, and one of our sides (fries) was missing and never arrived. The tartar sauce had an unexpected thousand island flavor, but was enjoyable.

We also noticed the neighboring table ordered fried flounder and didn’t seem to be informed that it had to be baked instead—something that could lead to confusion for other diners.

Staff appeared young and doing their best, but the overall service met only basic expectations—except for the standout welcome from the gentleman at the entrance. The value was reasonable ($36 for two, with shrimp at no extra charge).

The atmosphere is enhanced by beautiful water color paintings of riverboats that you might see on the Kanawha River shoving barges, available for purchase. In summary: come for the view and approachable staff, but temper expectations regarding food consistency and kitchen flexibility. We’d consider returning to try regular menu items in hopes of a better showing.

While the service is hit or miss, the owner takes a personal role in greeting and seeing to guests, the food we have had is good, but not excellent. This restaurant, housed in a historical building, is unique and tries to seem classy, but when you look closely it’s more tacky. I have always liked my meals, but I do find it to be slightly bland and underwhelming. I think the recipes cater an older crowd, just like the decor. We’ve had a little bit of everything off the menu and it all falls just a tad short of being excellent. The Sister Schubert rolls annoy me. I think that they should make their rolls in house and not cut corners; but I’m a bread lover and these rolls are my least favorite.

I loved this place. I had a steak with salad and baked potato. The yeasty rolls were phenomenal! They go a bit extra on the salad so that’s a nice surprise. The service was fantastic as well and I appreciated the beautiful view of the river.
The only thing I can say negative is if you look too close it needs attention in the cleaning department. The woman’s bathroom needed a cleaning and a vacuuming throughout the restaurant. Otherwise I would have given it a full five stars.

Angela’s was great we got the seafood pasta special and it was delightful the only negative was the scallops and shrimp were very small ànd slightly over cooked; also got the prime rib with scalloped potatoes and collard greens (oh the collard greens not so shabby )…it was perfect. The service was great and so was the prices would highly recommend if you would like some delicious food for a great price in a cozy atmosphere.
