Tonight we came to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. Shortly after being seated, the server told me I “needed to control my daughter.” At first I didn’t understand due to a language barrier, so I politely asked her to explain. She then told me my daughter was “out of control” and eats too messy.
My daughter is a young child with special needs who gets excited when she eats sushi. She was not being disruptive. just messy, which I always take responsibility for and clean up. The comment felt judgmental, humiliating, and deeply hurtful, especially coming from a place we have supported for years.
We left without ordering, and my daughter was heartbroken and crying because she didn’t understand why she couldn’t have her birthday sushi.
I understand restaurants have standards, but there is a way to communicate concerns with kindness and understanding, especially when children and disabilities are involved. Unfortunately, this experience made us feel unwelcome and disrespected, and it has changed how we view a restaurant we once loved.
The rolls were pretty good, however not outstanding therefore I am giving it a four star, not five.
The person serving us was very friendly and she was explaining us how to use wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. She also warned us that wasabi was very spicy. I was under impression she thought it was our first visit to a sushi place. LOL.
My friend had an oyster shooter and she thought it was a tad strong. I thought it was not as visually pleasing as I would expected it to be.
All and all it was a good experience.
Food is tasty, fresh, and presentation is
Staff are friendly and attentive.
The popcorn scallop roll is a favorite!
– Sweet mango roll: our favorite! It was on a sweet side due to the mango & sweet sauce but it had everything in a roll: unagi, shrimp tempura & crab meat! Delicious combo
– Spicy tuna roll: good solid spicy tuna roll
– Crunch roll: since my kid’s favorite is shrimp tempura roll, this was the closest that they have plus additional tempura crunch on top. This extra crunchy roll was good.
By the end of our meal, the kind lady gave my son a small coloring book for finishing the sushi. This made my kid’s day and he’s now asking to go there all the
The fish itself was very fresh and the rice was the right moisture and texture. However, the sashimi B set with 12 pieces of sashimi only had 3 different varieties of fish but I kind of expected more. However, fish was very good.
The ika nigiri was cut in a very elegant and fancy pattern! Loved it!
The salad with the dressing was also very fresh and the dressing was delicious.
Rolls were okay.
The only thing I didn’t like was that the pickled ginger that I received in the to-go container was spoiled and it ruined the taste/smell of the fish. Perhaps the container of ginger was left out too long (I picked it up about 20 minutes after I called it in, and it took me 15 minutes to get home. Their service was very fast).
I called near the end of the night so that may have contributed. I even received a phone call to pick it up as a reminder, so A+ for service.
Picking it up was also a breeze as I walked in, someone came to the entryway within 30 seconds, I told them my name and paid. I’m just sad about the ginger.
