The service was excellent; the staff were both attentive and friendly throughout our meal. As for the food, everything was spot on. We ordered the Schnitzel Cordon Bleu, red cabbage, fried potatoes, and a Knackwurst sausage, along with a pretzel and German mustard. To top it off, the Hefe beer was easily one of the best I’ve ever tasted.
I highly recommend stopping here if you want a fun environment and a great meal.
Our waitress was incredibly kind and helpful, which made the experience even better. I can’t have gluten, eggs, or dairy, and I was still able to enjoy the seasonal sausage with cold potato salad and sauerkraut, all of it was amazing. We also shared the fried potatoes, which were perfectly done.
My husband ordered the schnitzel cordon bleu, served over spätzle with gravy, and absolutely loved it. To top it off, he had the Black Forest cake for dessert, which was such a treat not overly sweet, perfectly balanced, and honestly flawless.
Everything about this meal was delightful. I feel like I’m already planning my return just to eat here again.
Two major things stood out to me.
1. If you get the breaded schnitzel, make sure to add a cream sauce on the side. Their cream sauce was out of this world amazing.
2. The entries are pretty straightforward and simple fare. I got a pork schnitzel and it came with potato salad. I wish they would have also given me a small side of something like cabbage/sauerkraut. The meal just seem to be lacking a small side dish.
This is not a place to go for a cheap meal, but the prices were absolutely reasonable for the quality and quantity offered. We are already looking forward to trying more of the menu the next time we visit Leavenworth!
We had the opportunity to chat with the friendly Culinary Director (chef) Anita Hamilton, who grew up in Germany and has been at Andreas Keller for nearly 35 years.
Not knowing our exact arrival time in Leavenworth due to a Thanksgiving snowstorm, we skipped making dinner reservations. No worries—I had already checked out Andreas Keller online and saw reviews saying walk-ins were usually doable. Sure enough, we stopped in, gave our name to the host, were handed a pager, and told the wait would be about an hour. Perfect—time to shop!
When we returned, we were seated at the last table in the back near the small bar. Even though the restaurant was full, the location was ideal—we could actually hear each other and enjoy a real conversation . Major kudos to our waitress, who mentioned she had driven over an hour in the snowstorm just to work the dinner shift. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely pleasant (I wish I remembered her name).
My son ordered the Chicken Oktoberfest—and got the last one! That alone tells you how popular it is. It came with warm red cabbage, potato salad, and grainy mustard and was absolutely worth it. My daughter-in-law ordered the Bavarian Beef Goulash with spaetzle, which unfortunately was a miss—the meat was quite dry, even with the gravy. I went with the Sahne Schnitzel topped with gravy and served over spaetzle, and it was tasty and comforting.
Portions here are generous and easily shareable. For drinks, my son enjoyed a craft beer, while my DIL and I each had two Glühweins—served hot with a cinnamon stick. Sweet, warming, and a true German classic.
All in all, Andreas Keller is a solid walk-in option with heavy portions, festive drinks and a cozy atmosphere.
BTW, Keep a lookout, You can miss the entrance to Andreas Keller, as you need to walk down the stairs.
I’m very familiar with German cuisine, and we enjoyed the sausage sampler, a perfectly made German potato salad, and a thick Bavarian pretzel. The alpine cheddar is pricey but honestly a must-have with the pretzel, even if it brings the total to over $20 for bread and cheese. Still, we enjoyed it.
The food overall is good with average portions, but as expected in a tourist town, it’s the most expensive German meal I’ve had in my travels. Despite the Thanksgiving chaos, the service was very good and attentive, which we really appreciated. It’s a solid stop if you’re looking for classic German comfort food in the heart of Leavenworth.
However, the customer service is super! They’re very fast in service and the servers are really top notch. We ordered the Cream of Kraut soup – yummy! We loved it. The Bavarian Beef Goulash is one of their top selling dishes – a must try! The fried potatoes were nice too 🙂
It is nice to bring someone new to experience it although other people in town said overpriced German food but well I have to come back because it is German food in German town kinda vibe
The host was super friendly and nice but our server wasn’t friendly at all. They were pretty busy as well. Again, the food is just OKAY.
