The Anchorage Tavern is the oldest continuously operated business establishment in Somers Point. The three-story wood structure, complete with its slate roof and original lighted “BAR” signs, has welcomed guests since 1874. Located in the charming Bay Historical District at 823 Bay Avenue in Somers Point, NJ, it remains a favorite destination for burgers, seafood, family dining, and casual restaurants at the Jersey Shore.
Bar fare & seafood entrees served in a circa-1900 wooden tavern with a bustling bar & quaint porch.

WARNING: DO NOT GET THE BUFFALO CHICKEN “SANDWICH”
I ordered a “buffalo chicken sandwich”. My god that was not a buffalo chicken sandwich. It was simply a piece of chicken with half a bottle of buffalo sauce on it and a bun haphazardly thrown on top. I saw someone else say it disintegrated as they tried to eat it and I am going to have to agree. The food has been good here before, good service, good prices but that was the most ridiculous plate of food I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it was not good, though the fries were really tasty. I wish the magnitude of the chicken on the “sandwich” had been specified, as I would have gotten this “sandwich” had I known the scale (and soggy nature). But! I do like this place and I now I know what NOT to get!

It was absolutely disgusting. My crab chowder came with a hair in it, then I got given this as a buffalo chicken sandwich. What on earth am I supposed to do with this slab of chicken??? It was supposed to be a sandwich!! The chicken was massively overcooked, absolutely caked in buffalo sauce and had a bun top just placed on it. There was a bun bottom I think but it was so saturated with sauce that it had disintegrated. What a disgusting meal.

Last night back to a favorite vacation spot, Anchorage Tavern. One of the busiest but lucky for us we only waited 40 minutes and got to sit inside! We started with drinks and Oyster Shooters and Stuffed Mushrooms followed by Crab Cake sandwiches, Strip Steak and Shrimp for both granddaughters, Grouper Special for my wife and Wahoo Special with shrimp for me!

My wife and I came here because it was highly reviewed and it did not disappoint. We had the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and they were homemade and delicious! She got the hot crab dip and we both agreed it was some of the best crab dip we’ve had here at the Jersey shore. I got the Flounder Gorgonzola and it was honestly one of the best seafood dishes I’ve ever had! Drinks were cold. Vibes were great. Come here for dinner! 10/10

This location is fantastic! The service, ambiance, and food were all top-notch. It was a work lunch, otherwise, I would have loved to try one of the many beers on tap. I really wish I lived closer, I’d definitely make this place a regular haunt.

The Anchorage has been a staple in Somers Point for a long time. It has been a favorite gathering spot for locals to meet in off season & visitors in summer. Recently, for a birthday celebration the staff were so kind & gracious with our special guest. Lucky enough to seat on the porch added to the event that made the okay meal nicer. Our server were terrific.
Selections included: Broiled scallops with linguine in wine sauce on side; Bacon cheese burger; Rack of Ribs. The scallops were a overcooked over a nice sauce. Since the linguine had none I poured it over the pasta to make my own sauce. The burger was overshadowed by huge bun but was told it was ok. The BBQ Ribs were good but not great.
Many remember when the Anchorage was rated as one of the best seafood restaurants in the area. I’m sorry to report it’s slipped in this reviewer’s eyes over last few visits.
Thank you to the servers who made the birthday very special for the special person at our table. You were all grand!
