5 Stars, because I love it, but it doesn’t mean you will. Expectation management is crucial. A little dated and run-down, a bit haphazard set-up, and buffet options that range from amazing to unappetizing, BUT this is one of my favorite restaurants.

Located in a small city of Kansas on historic main street, this is more than a hole-in-the-wall but not the place to impress your girl on date night. The fact that Mexican Buffet restaurants aren’t common makes this special, but what keeps me coming back are the greasiest, most tasty, cheese enchiladas I have ever found. I am also enamored by the sugar cookies that burst with flavor (and crumbs) in every bite.

If I could recommend two improvements that would greatly improve the experience, it would be a little reno / clean-up, starting with the bathroom, and improving the buffet line flow. But neither inconvenience is enough to keep Anchor Inn fans away.

I’ve always heard mixed reviews about this restaurant, but since the online ratings were fairly decent, my family and I decided to try it ourselves. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing.

The buffet does offer a large variety of items, including cheese enchiladas, taco fixings, ribs, chicken, plus several other protein options, along with a salad bar and a dessert bar. While the selection may look impressive at first glance, the overall quality and flavor of the food were lacking.

The cheese enchiladas were particularly underwhelming. The cheese was not that great, and the enchilada sauce was sparse and far from authentic, lacking depth, seasoning, or richness. The ground beef used for the tacos was just okay, but even that lacked seasoning and bold flavor. Overall, the food did not resemble authentic Mexican cuisine or even a good Tex-Mex alternative. Many of the dishes felt bland and poorly seasoned, and the flavors did not complement each other. Having a wide variety of options means very little when none of them truly stand out or taste good.

As far as the restrooms. 2 out of 3 stalls in the ladies restroom were out of order. The waitress didn’t introduce herself or offer chips for the table. She refilled my drink twice, but my family had to ask for their drink to be refilled everytime.

Given the lack of flavor and authenticity of the food this is not a restaurant I would consider returning to or recommend at all. There are far better options available for anyone looking for quality Mexican or Tex-Mex food.

How can i say this in the most respectful way…food was pretty bad…refried beans were like soup. The fried tacos on the buffet tasted absolute horrible where I had to spit it in my napkin..the service was nice but that doesn’t make up for the food… the beef from the buffet was horrible..couldnt even finish half of my plates because of the taste..the fact that this place has 4.5 stars is crazy. Went eat today and only ate rice ….pretty sad do better people…I understand why they have a huge refrigerator full of alcohol when you walk out cause..I think next time ill have to be under the influence in order to eat here…got sick after I ate here aswell what a waste of money…absolutely sad… eveything seems frozen and not fresh which you would think would be everyday being a Mexican restaurant but nobody taste doesn’t lie people raise your standards hutch come on!!!!

Great place to go in Hutchinson. Interior is unique. It has been a staple downtown since ’77. The staff was attentive. They have buffet Wed-Sat for a reasonable price. Tamales and rice are decent, and I enjoy their tortillas. It’s buffet food so don’t set your expectations too high. If you order off the menu I feel like the quality is a little better. Good place to hit the bar and watch the game. They also have room for larger parties and events. I’ll upgrade to five stars once the restroom facilities get a little more cleaning attention. Consistently good experiences.

Stopped here last night(Friday). Never been here before, but Mexican buffets aren’t too common, so I stopped because of the novelty. The service was great and the atmosphere was fine. The most important part for me is the food. The selection was fair, but I wasn’t impressed by the quality of the food. The potatoes were good as was the chocolate cake. The enchiladas were not to my liking, neither was the fish or the chicken dish. I’ve been to one other Mexican buffet, that was in Omaha. Wasn’t impressed with that one either.

They were accommodating to our group of 8. Made sure we had seating at last minute. The food was good and we ate the buffet. There was so much on it, you couldn’t try everything if you tried.

We were there on a busy Friday night. We ordered off the menu. Food was fast and delicious. We ordered chips and salsa. Absolutely the best chips I’ve ever eaten! Chose to sit at a table rather than a booth so had to sit by the buffet but it was fun to people watch from there.

Not their fault that we got there near closing, so the buffet was limited. Food was good. Would go again at an earlier hour. Service was great, not rushed at all.

The restaurant is located in downtown Hutchinson close to the antique shops and Smith’s Market. We enjoyed the authentic Mexican food and atmosphere. It has three areas: a buffet, a bar, and regular dining. The staff was very friendly.
