Social Profile:

On March 4th, 1964, Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar at the now famous Anchor Bar Restaurant in Buffalo, NY. Late that evening, a group of Dominic’s friends arrived at the bar with ravenous appetites. Dominic asked his mother, Teressa, to prepare something for his friends to eat. They looked like chicken wings, a part of the chicken that usually went into the stock pot for soup. Teressa had deep fried the wings and flavored them with a secret sauce. The wings were an instant hit and it didn’t take long for people to flock to the bar to experience this new taste sensation. From that evening on, Buffalo Wings became a regular part of the menu at the Anchor Bar. The phenomenon created in 1964 by Teressa Bellissimo has spread across the globe

Famed birthplace of the Buffalo chicken wing, also offering Italian fare, draft beers & live jazz.

Anchor Bar – Buffalo

There’s only one place to get the original Buffalo wings: Frank & Teressa’s Anchor Bar. Come see where it all started back in 1964.

The wings are as good as usual. Tried two new things: anchor bar style pizza and potato with cheese. The pizza is quite tough on the surface but have a soft and juicy inside. They might just use broil mode to bake the pizza to get the crust. Interesting combination

Cauliflower wings and impossible burger at Anchor Bar? I Want to Know What Love by Foreigner is also playing at the bar while I post this, so we’re having a good time. Not busy on a Monday afternoon, friendly wait staff and bartender. Food was pretty good, not the best of either that I’ve had but you take the vegetarian options you can get at a chicken wing place.

Anchor Bar is a great spot for anyone who loves delicious, flavourful wings. We tried the Spicy Garlic Parmesan and Chipotle BBQ wings; both were good. But the Chipotle BBQ flavour was sweat for me. I personally like the Garlic Parmesan flavour but I couldn’t try it as it was spicy. I wish they offered a mild Garlic Parmesan option for those who prefer less heat.

We went for the double traditional wings (20 wings), which was more than enough for two people; it was plenty and we even had leftovers.

The atmosphere was fun, with lots of enthusiastic photos and quirky décor, which made the place feel lively. The servers were friendly, attentive, and respectful. this place is a solid choice for wing lovers, especially if you’re looking for generous portions and a fun, welcoming vibe.

Great place for the original buffalo wings paired with fries and beef weck sandwich. Tried out the flying bison lager and it was really good. We were visiting from Texas so we bought souvenir tshirts.
It was a great time by all and our waitress Eva was personable and attentive.
Atmosphere is low key and casual so it was great for a low key kind of day.
Highly recommend! ⭐️

Like a beacon of light, the sun illuminated a path to lead us to the reported birthplace of the Buffalo Wing. Local legend has it that Teressa Bellissimo was at the Anchor Bar in 1964 when her son Dominic made a desperate late night plea to feed him and his friends. With limited options to consider she improvised and chose to deep fry some chicken wings, typically meant for the stock pot for soup, and flavored them with a “secret sauce.” This improvisation was an instant hit and quickly advanced from local legend to global phenomenon.

Wanting this historical narrative to be true, but armed with at least a little skepticism, I just had to discover if all of the hype was warranted. It took me all of my first bite to release any doubts that I possessed and I found myself contemplative while awaiting the multitude of flavors to arrive. These wings are immediately addictive, have an inexplicably crunchy exterior, are accompanied by an abundance of sauce to complement their juicy and tender interior, and I was shocked at how quickly that first one was followed by 21 others.

I would highly recommend that you study the sauce spectrum carefully prior to ordering and select at least two for comparison purposes. One of my selections was the “Spicy Garlic Parmesan” (which is only 1 rung above “Medium (Original)” and it featured a delayed, but joyful burn. Hesitant to express itself initially, it draws comparisons to a rocketship afterburn, so when your server provides you a glass of water it’s not just for show. Neither is the celery or that stack of napkins lying in front of you. You’re gonna get real familiar with those 3 amigos early on during your meal to help extinguish that fire in your pie hole. They’ve been at this for more than 60 years and know what they’re doing and exactly what necessary equipment you’ll need!

Your wait to get a table can be long (especially if a Bills game is imminent) so plan your visit strategically.

As my wing boneyard will atest, time flies here as your unbridled ravenous urges are manifested!

And that’s…Henry’s Take.

This place is nostalgic. The wings were really good and the potatoes wedges. I was supposed that it wasn’t more people there. Overall, because this is said to be the first place to create buffalo wings I had to try and I’m glad I did. Definitely make the stop of for anything to have the experience.

I was really excited to come try home of the original buffalo wings and this place was cool. Inside had a lot of memorable on the walls which was cool.

I order the spicy hot chicken soup and it was amazing. I wanted to take a tub of that home with me easy a must get. The wings were also good but I was a bit disappointed in their spiciest level as it wasn’t as spicy as I would hope but still good flavor. The other flavors we got were good solid wings sauces.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures pictures of the food as were we starving after the bills games. It seems everyone also come here after a game so be a little patient when coming here.

We can say we had the original. That’s about it though. The wings came out cold. We wanted to try the original and another flavor. We chose Spicy Garlic Parm. They were just buffalo wings with a seasoning spread on top. Not tossed at all. The fried pickles were excellent though. Service was not stellar either. It might be because I was wearing my NE Patriots sweatshirt!

Given this place was the origin of Buffalo Chicken Wings I had to give it a shot, given I was headed to Buffalo to watch a Bills game. This place did not disappoint the hype. From the unique, authentic design of the restaurant to the atmosphere to the service and the food, every aspect was spectacular. The wings are fresh and never frozen as well.
