Starters:
The Tender Jack Cutlet (tender jackfruit, sweet potatoes, beets, tamarind-date chutney) was absolutely top notch. For Valentine’s Day, they made them heart-shaped, which was adorable! Highly recommend this dish.
The Inji-Puli Lotus Root was one of the most amazing lotus root dishes we’ve ever had. The lotus root medallions were marinated in a tangy ginger-tamarind glaze and had a lovely sweet, fluffy texture.
We also tried a fried chicken dish from their special Valentine’s Day menu – it was nicely spicy and delicious.
Main Course:
The Veggie Potlam Biryani was presented beautifully, wrapped in a banana leaf and served with raita. It was warm and incredibly flavorful.
However, the absolute star of the meal was the Baked Cauliflower dish! It came with an amazing gravy and two small Malabar parathas – this was outstanding!
Drinks & Desserts:
The Lemon Rosé Soda was okay, nothing special. For dessert, we ordered their special Strawberry Cake, which was great, and received a complimentary Chocolate Mousse Cake that was equally delicious.
Overall, Anantara delivered a memorable dining experience with creative dishes, excellent service, and a warm atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!
As a local, I’m honestly kicking myself for not discovering Anatara sooner! My party of three managed to snag a reservation for lunch on Thanksgiving Day, and thank goodness we did. The place was bustling, but the service was incredibly attentive and top-notch, even with the holiday rush. The interior is beautiful, spotless, and nicely decorated, setting such a great, comfortable vibe.
Starters That Stole the Show:
We started strong with three appetizers that were seriously delicious.
* The Railway Cutlets were adorable heart-shaped perfection, perfectly spiced and incredibly tasty.
* We devoured the super yummy Gunpowder Idli Bites served with a coconut chutney that was dangerously good.
* The Crab Podimas was a unique and flavorful dish–a new one for us. My only thought was that it absolutely needed a side of fresh roti to complete the perfect rainy-day meal at home!
Mains That Felt Like Home:
Nothing we ordered was overly spicy, which was lovely. The dishes felt authentic and lovingly prepared.
* The Goat Potlam Biryani tasted exactly like something my grandmother would have proudly made. It was truly super yum!
* The Non-Veg Thali was a fantastic choice, offering a little bit of everything. Every single item on the plate, including the two desserts, was delicious.
* But the absolute star of the day, my favorite dish we ordered, was the Halibut Pollichathu. The fish was perfectly cooked and gorgeously spiced. It came with a side of what seemed like mashed cassava with coconut chutney, which was such a unique and inspired pairing that complemented the fish flawlessly.
Passing the Ultimate Test:
They passed my crucial test: the Cha. I firmly believe a perfect cup of cha is the tell-tale sign of a great Indian kitchen, and theirs was absolutely spot on. My dining companions also enjoyed their nicely presented mimosa. The fact that the food and the cha were both flawless tells you everything you need to know.
I saw so many mouth-watering dishes being served to other tables, and I’m 100% returning soon to try more of the menu. Anatara is a must-visit spot, and I can’t wait for my next meal here!
For starters, we tried the Karuveppilai Shrimp — pan-fried shrimp with curry leaves and a flavorful peanut dip — and the Denji Rava Fry, a perfectly spiced semolina-coated crab fried to golden perfection. Both dishes were outstanding and packed with authentic South Indian flavor.
For our mains, we went all out with the Grandma’s Goat Meat Curry, Lobster Igguru (paired wonderfully with Poricha Porotta), Malabar Black Cod in a coconut milk and raw mango gravy, and the Nalli with Poricha Porotta, featuring a tender, fall-off-the-bone goat shank. Every dish was cooked to perfection — deeply flavorful, beautifully presented, and wonderfully balanced. You could really taste the care and authenticity in each bite.
For dessert, we ended with the Gulab Jamun Brûlée, which was creative and indulgent. While the concept was fantastic, it was way too sweet — toning down the sugar would make it just right.
Special shoutout to our waiter, Ganesh, who was incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the evening.
Overall, Anantara is a true culinary gem in Fremont. If you love refined South Indian flavors presented with creativity and care, this place is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back.
The menu keeps changing and is focused on dishes from the southern part of India. Spice levels are mild, service is efficient, and food is tasty.
They also have a very large thali experience, that’s highly recommended. Slightly expensive, but plenty of food that may be hard to finish in its entirety. Non-veg thali is recommended.
A special shout-out to our server, Narendran, who made the experience even more enjoyable. His warm hospitality, attention to detail, and genuine enthusiasm for the food were outstanding. He guided us through the menu with great recommendations and ensured everything was perfect from start to finish.
This place is a gem; delicious food, impeccable service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend it to anyone craving an authentic taste of Southern Indian.
Medium spicy was perfect balance. It did seem milder side. But enjoyed the flavors. Totally recommend it.
