Amazing food great service staff. I had the chef omakase, the chef was very kind and personable he told me about that he was a chef for 25 years originally in Japan.
He explained all the dishes and treated me very well for it being my first time trying sushi and authentic Japanese food. I would recommend this place highly. The chef omakase is 144$ per person so it’s kinda pricey but worth it if you can I will be coming by back here my next time in San Francisco.

First time here with friends. They changed ownership, new chef with high quality sushi. Love their sake choice, many varieties, ask the servant for your preference. Reservation, walk-in is very unlikely get the seating.

My family and I love to try out sushi and Japanese food wherever we go, and of course in Japan where my parents are from. The food here was so thoughtfully curated – everything was delicious. It was the best sushi I have tasted in the United States. The owners before were great, and the new owners are doing an incredible job. Worth every penny!!

My wife and I went here for our 10th wedding anniversary. What a great find! The setting is simple yet intimate. The food is wonderful and the fish as good and fresh as you’d get in Tokyo. The chef goes out of his way to describe each fish and the proper way to enjoy it based upon the preparation. Would strongly recommend the omakase nigiri.

An is a very intimate and authentic Japanese restaurant located inside of the Japantown Mall. There are only 8 seats at the bar and 3-4 other tables for 2 (max 4), so be sure to make a reservation weeks ahead!
The Chef’s omakase is the way to go here. It’s an 8 course meal – it came with a few appetizer dishes ahead of the nigiri, including a few slices of sashimi, a chawanmushi, and miso marinated black cod, ahead of 7 amazing chef-choice cuts of nigiri. Check out the pictures to see how fresh each of these pieces of nigiri and sashimi are. It also came with a nice little strawberry and chocolate mochi dessert at the end.
An is a hidden gem in SF where there are so many options. This one is very affordable and the chefs explained each dish perfectly. Would highly recommend An!
