We were seated quickly and our order was taken within 5 minutes. While we waited for our appetizers, we were served table bread. It was soft on the inside with a beautiful crunch on the outside, drizzled with some olive oil and sprinkled with herbs. Our appetizers came out rather quickly, which was a nice surprise. We tried the Arancini and the Meatballs. Both were delicious choices. We looked forward to our entrees.
30 minutes passed. Then 45. Our waiter never came to check on us. We asked someone else if they could check on our food. Never heard back. Finally, after waiting 60 minutes, we asked to speak with a manager. After checking on our order, he said there was some confusion in the kitchen. Seems like our entree ticket was never put in. They quickly worked on our food and the manager apologized profusely.
The entrees we tried were the Short Rib served over Polenta as well as the Salmon over Risotto. Both entrees were outstanding, although the risotto could have used a little more time in the pan as there were some pieces that seemed under.
We ended up taking our desserts (cannoli and limoncello cake) home because it was late, but those were also well made also.
I will say that if the food wasn’t delicious, I would never give this place a second thought. However, because the dishes we tried were good, I would absolutely give them a second chance. I do think their staff needs a little extra training, but the manager made up for that as well. He did mention that their restaurant had only been open a few months, so maybe in another few months some of these issues will have been ironed out.
Our compliments to the chef. We hope to enjoy a meal here again in the future.
They’ve done a great job with the decor. It wasn’t busy and we were seated right away. Orders were taken but the food did take awhile to come out. I’m glad they gave us delicious complimentary bread.
The artichoke appetizer dish had way too much lemon and that was all I could taste. Very sour and salty so it was a disappointment and I wouldn’t recommend.
A couple of our pastas were cold while others were still warm. But they were all delicious. The chicken parmigiana dish was a good size.
My first time at this restaurant will indeed be my last and you can find more authentic Italian cuisine around the San Diego area. I made a reservation for 1 for 7:30 and I arrived at 7:15. I was seated immediately which gave me a good initial impression. The presentation on the table was superb. Utensils were clean, glasses had no smudging. From when I was seated it took about 10 minutes for me to be greeted by my waitress. To this I gave grace bc it was clear that she was tending to larger parties.
She asked me what I wanted to drink and any starters. I asked for water and garlic bread to start. The garlic bread was just okay. A little burnt and not very flavorful. To this I noticed that there were a lot of workers there’s but there was no one working if that makes sense. It was as if most of the waiters and waitresses were walking around to look busy while also relying on the busboys to pick up the slack. If I’m honest the back of house were on the floor more than the hostess and waitress/waiters. I’m not an expert in restaurant culture and normal procedures but I did think it was weird.
When my waitress came back I asked if I can order everything all at once. I ordered the Arancine and the carbonara. The arancine came out first. Like I stated earlier, presentation wise it looked good! But once I tasted it I knew something was off. The tomato sauce was cold. And the balls were lukewarm. And the saffron rice were unevenly cooked; some pieces were hard and chewy. At this point I had been waiting for about 15-20 minutes for my carbonara. One of the busboys asked me how everything was. I responded nicely and let him know I’m still waiting on my carbonara. About 5-10 minutes later my carbonara came. The waiter almost hesitated when giving it to me; This is a small minuscule detail but I thought I’d add it. Immediately I knew something was off. The pasta sauce looked…gray. And it smelled weird. I still wanted to try it and the noodles were undercooked! Like severely undercooked and gummy. And the flavor profile was off. I’d never had carbonara before but I know how to boil pasta and that was NOT boiled for the appropriate amount of the time; I wanted to throw up. My stomach began to hurt as well. I took two bites and asked for it all to go and the check from the nice waitress. She was the highlight of this night! I ended up paying $60.55 for the entire meal.
I’m not sure if I received the short end of the stick or it was a busy night, but I can’t recommend this place. Especially with it being so new, the service and food and overall atmosphere were weird. From what I observed it seems like what they care about the most is presentation and aesthetic rather than the quality of the food.
Outstanding service as well. Definitely try it out, you won’t be disappointed!
Wonderful experience!!
