We always love stopping by as we wrap up a long wonderful weekend at Camp Dearborn. Just wanted to let everyone know how good the food and service is. I just had the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. They’re currently on the menu. Abby was our server and did a great job. If you’re looking for a quick bite stop on in.

I don’t live in this area However I have been to this coney island before. We came on a Sunday around 12 o’clock in the afternoon. It was really busy, however, the food came out fast. I ordered chicken noodle soup, a chili Burger, chili fries, chicken tenders and fries, milkshake breakfast, 2 eggs, and bacon.
Everything was great, however, the chicken tenders, we’re kinda gross. They come frozen. the honey mustard and ranch are good. I would just work on making the frozen stuff. Taste better or making fresh chicken tenders.

Americus has the BEST salads around. Great place for carryout or dine in for lunch.

Big menu full of a variety of choices. We came for breakfast… our omelette scrambles were generous portion sizes, delicious, and arrived super fast. Coffees were delicious too, and the servers kept them refilled nicely.

With everything going on in the restaurant industry lately, and the decade and a half I spent working in restaurants, I have so much sympathy and patience for waitstaff and kitchen staff.
Today was different. The restaurant was less than half full and there were at least 6 staff members waking around. We were seated and then waited 15 minutes for someone to come to our table. We asked the different staff members to let someone know we were there, and still, nothing. They all kept clearing tables and picking up tips, but no one came to us. Eventually a waitress came over, set down silverware, and then said “Do you know what you want?”. Not any kind of hello or apology or anything about our long wait.
We ordered and it took another 10 minutes just for drinks to come. When I got my coffee, the mug was covered in dried food with things floating in it. The silverware looked like it hadn’t been washed.
There are fruit flies literally everywhere.
The food was awful today. Everything had random green onions and mushrooms and random things in it. Saganaki pita pieces looked like they were cut on a dirty counter with pieces of potato and cheese on them. Undercooked egg whites were clear, toast and English muffin were burnt, everything was luke warm at best. Son’s hot dog was still cold. The fruit cup was mushy and still had the rinds on it in some places and random green onions mixed in. Hollandaise sauce was chunky and cold. They forgot some of the items after multiple requests.
The waitress didn’t come back until maybe 15 minutes later and brought the bill. I tried to flag her down to tell her about the experience, but she never came back.
Total for myself and two kids meals was almost $40. When I told the girl at the front that the food was cold, we barely touched the food and things were dirty, she said “Okay.” and repeated my total. No offer to fix it or an apology.
We used to love this restaurant, but even before the pandemic, things started to slip. Today, we were in the area and figured we’d try it out again. Now, it just feels like a really awful experience all around.

I have been eating here once or twice a year for the last five or six years. The place is absolutely amazing today. I had a coconut crusted chicken salad and I was blown away. I can’t tell you in the last 10 years when I have ordered chicken at a restaurant and was absolutely blown away. Breakfast is fantastic. Their lunches are fantastic and their dinners are great. So much of their food is made from scratch and it shows.
