Mexicali, Baja Mexico native America Cortez has been cooking for friends and family for many years now. Since moving to Vermont from San Diego, CA in 2008, she always dreamed of opening a place where she could share her cooking with the great people of Newport/Derby and anyone who adventures into her shop. The shop opened in 2014 with the help and support of friends, family and her loving husband Mike. It’s been 5 years and making everyone feel at home has been a must here since day one. We hope you enjoy the quality of food and service. Mexicali Influenced tacos with a few California favorites.

If you’re ever in the Newport, VT area, America’s Taco Shop is a must. I’ve been eating here ever since they opened, then moved away. On my recent visit to Vermont, after being away for a few years, I could not wait to sink my teeth into one of America’s burritos. I ordered a Mexicali Burrito, and other members of my family ordered the Carne Asada Bowl, Carne Asada Chips, and California Burrito. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and truly enjoyed the hospitality, Especially after being away for so long, and to be remembered and treated like family, it’s certainly a rare thing in today’s world.

Stopped on a visit recently against my better judgement. I was overly optimistic for our food. Super disappointing (but I should’ve known better having been raised in California and living in large cities where decent Mexican food can be found). The corn was watery, the rolled tacos were dry… we ended up throwing most of the rest of our order away I suppose for the area it is the best you could get.

From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I knew I was in for a good time. The menu was super descriptive (helpful for a picky husband) and the choices were overwhelming in the sense that I couldn’t decided what to eat: it all sounded amazing. I got the adobo pork tacos, husband got a quesadilla, and my daughter got flautas. As soon as we got the food, I knew this was as authentic as it could get. My mother from Chihuahua was surprised when I told her about the amazing food we got in VERMONT. I was beat to the punch. I wanted to bring some Mexican cuisine to Vermont, but you guys win! The most delicious food I have had in a very long time. I felt at home. Like my mom would pop out of the kitchen. Thank you so much for such a wonderful trip down memory road. I hope everyone comes here and gets the full experience. Also, I got two red salsas which meant I got to bring some home for breakfast the next morning. Again, thank you and keep up the great work! Got the Chorizo burrito and my wife got the carne asada bowl. Literally the best burrito I’ve had in my life. The staff was all really friendly and even the other patrons were friendly. Definitely getting that small town vibe but with phenomenal food.

I really like this place, it’s got awesome food that’s consistent which no where in the NEK can say, and awesome service. Pretty sure I’ve had the majority of the menu by now an if not my own order, finished my wife’s food lol. Salads, tacos, burritos, all really awesome an there’s no wrong answer. It is worth noting though, the burritos are small. I’d say significantly smaller of that you’d get from qudoba, or chipotle.

I had lunch there with my sister and the food is amazing! We had rolled tacos, the mexicali burrito and we shared a quesadilla, green salsa is bomb ! We also tried the house horchata and jamaica, everything was super delicious America and the girls gave us a 5 ⭐️ service all the time! I really love this place

5 stars isn’t enough for how good this place is. It’s some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had and always consistent. America is an absolute delight. I can’t recommend this place more.

Busy little place, for sure. Staff seemed very good at keeping up with the pace, which to me, says the food will be made tastier. Happy staff make better food, don’t you agree? 🙂 Food was flavorful, a bit small in the portion area (size vs flavor…of course I’d pick flavor) and when I was done eating, my stomach felt satiate without feeling heavy (and tired). Another sign they use good ingredients (and homemade). Thank you for a delicious meal for my mom’s birthday. 🙂
