Everything was clean and well-organized, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The service was quick, and the atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming.
If you’re looking for a solid steak dinner with the bonus of a buffet, American Steak House is definitely worth visiting. I’ll be back!
Really nice salad bar but needs boiled eggs and better 1000 island dressing
So you will carry your tray to the table yourself.
First of all, it’s like half buffet and half cafeteria style. You order your main dish and get a tray and go down the line to add more food if you want.
I ordered steak and shrimp. My steak was more than half gristle than meat and over cooked. Shrimp was disgusting. It wasn’t cleaned before frying, so every piece had that dark ‘poop track’ that’s supposed to be removed. Then they were over cooked and practically dessicated. My baked potato was not good. It had been sitting in a warmer too long because the peel tasted horrible. And you get charged extra for butter and sour cream.
My husband ordered a steak which was completely overcooked and shoe leather. My son got ribs and steak and he couldn’t even cut through his steak it was so gristly and the ribs weren’t tender at all.
The salad bar was mediocre as the lettuce was mostly iceberg, no croutons, and the veggies didn’t look fresh–cucumbers we’re turning brown. Over all it was very bare bones. My husband tried the Oriental veggies in hot bar and said nope after one bite.
We got corn on the cob, which was fine, but it’s $5 extra per ear which is insanity.
The prices seem okay at first, until you add on corn for $5, a fountain drink for $5 with no free refills, that’s an extra $2, $1 for butter and sour cream. There were other add ones too that were all about $5 extra each.
The only thing that was decent were the two desserts we got. Lemon meringue pie and the chocolate cake. Those were $7 & $8 respectively and we’re pretty good.
Overall, we spent $86 for lunch for three people and it was absolutely awful and disappointing and we will not be returning and I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.
When you are craving a quick steak ( porterhouse ) and a potato and don’t want to drive 25 miles to West Haven or train it 35 miles to NY City, this place is the ” Any port in a storm ” place to go.
