What an incredible spot in the West Village! I’d heard the buzz about this restaurant online and about their iconic burger and Peanut Chicken Salad, so of course we had to try both. They were absolutely incredible. The burger truly melts in your mouth, and the Peanut Chicken Salad came in a generous portion, full of flavor and tossed in the perfect amount of dressing.

We also tried the café and dirty martinis, and both were great. I highly recommend American Bar to anyone visiting. The atmosphere was exactly what I imagined, and our server was quick and attentive. Just make sure to get a reservation in advance.

Cute American bistro with atmosphere perfect for a quiet dinner or catch up spot. Loved the burger and crispy fries. Had the chicken peanut salad and it was very good and plentiful. Ended with the ice cream sandwich and it was the star of the meal!

Vibey restaurant – great service but hits and misses in the food.

Got the peanut chicken chopped salad – delish and v light and refreshing. Pigs in a blanket were shockingly bad for how hard it is to mess up hotdog +puff pastry. The hot dog was dry as a bone and shriveled up. I was quite disappointed in this dish. I had seen another recent review with someone detailing also how dry it was, and wanted to still give it the benefit of the doubt so I ordered it anyways. Unfortunately, it truly was really disappointing.

I recently dined at The American Bar with a colleague and had an exceptional experience. The artichoke dip was absolutely delicious, and the Spicy Lobster Pasta was a highlight of the meal. The staff were courteous and attentive, providing top-notch service. While the prices were reasonable for the quality of food and service, the liquor prices were a bit steep. Overall, I’d highly recommend The American Bar for its ambiance, service, and cuisine. Perfect for a night out with colleagues or a special occasion.

The cutest romantic vibe. Great for a girls night out or a date. Great service. We had the pigs in a blanket for fun and they were good. The chicken peanut salad was amazing. The lobster fettuccini was good but a tad dry and very filling. They don’t skimp on the lobster! The baked potato was decent as was the spinach artichoke dip.

I really loved it here! Very vibey. GREAT salad. The kind of salad that I always want but no place really gets it right type of salad. Service was great. Everyone we encountered were lovely. I will be back again for sure!!

The service here was really spectacular. It never felt rushed and yet the team attendes to every detail. As one example, plates, crumbs and flatwear were fully cleared before each new course, and yet the service always felt natural and not formal. The atmosphere felt both intimate and welcoming. As a child of the 80s, I couldn’t get enough of the soundtrack. Not sure if it is always like this, but it felt like they were playing all the greatest hits of the 80s. Our dinner (bone in ribeye, mashed potatoes and chopped salad) was well prepared in all respects. The food itself was very good, yet not spectacular. Ultimately, the combination of the atmosphere, service and food combined perfectly to offer a delightful experience.

Went with some friends for dinner. The staff was nice but they got a few of the items wrong (mostly drinks where they brought the wrong martinis). The food itself was very below average with a well above average price point.

We tried a number of appetizers that just were very sub par. The pigs in a blanket tasted like the frozen store bought ones, the whipped ricotta and spinach dip had little flavor, but the onion straws were good.

For dinner I got the Spicy Lobster Pasta and couldn’t even find myself to finish it. The pasta was tasteless and the lobster tasted old and dry. My friend got the Miso Cod and that was really good.

All in all for almost $700 for 6 people before tip, theres much better restaurants in the area

For almost a whole year, I walked past this restaurant every single day. It was always packed with customers, and I was curious — but since I was alone, I felt too shy to go in. Now that my project here is coming to an end, I finally decided to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try. I had the lobster pasta and half a salad — both were absolutely delicious! The lobster pasta was perfectly done — the sauce, cherry tomatoes, and lobster were all full of flavor. I only regret not coming here sooner.

I just realized—was the tip not directly charged to my card? Should I have left cash on the table instead?
I’m terrible sorry. I’ll come by tomorrow to make up for the tip.
